The KLH Model Twelve is widely recognized as a Henry Kloss-designed masterpiece, and the most dynamic loudspeaker KLH  made, as they were engineered to replicate the sound of the famous KLH Model Nine electrostatics. These are available from local pick-up in Jersey City, NJ (not Brooklyn, NY!).

Model Twelve's are extremely rare and these are in absolutely great condition. They've got great bass, a tremendously smooth midrange and an easy to listen to treble response. Driver compliment consists of (1) 12" woofer, (2) 3" cone midrange speakers and a 1-3/4" tweeter all contained in a cabinet that is 29" high X 22-1/4" wide X 15" deep, and weighing 85lbs each.

The included external crossovers shown in the photos have four 3-way switches which control the level of the midrange and tweeters, and, despite being engineered for use together, have often gone missing over time.

The speakers and grills are in great shape, and the KLH badges are present. You also get the original instruction sheet and a review written by Julian Hirsch. The oiled walnut cabinets have a couple of minor veneer chips on the sides at the very bottom and a few minor flaws due to age. However, overall they are in outstanding condition.

These are frequently cited as KLH's best classic speakers, their only 3-ways and second only to the nines. Sometimes they are described as having identical woofers to the five, twelve, and twenty-three. While we are big fans of these models too, we note the twelves have a much deeper magnet structure for additional motor strength, with 2 rings.

The Model Fives, while also outstanding, have a single ring and much shallower depth.

These Model Twelves have been restored to show condition and all capacitors have been replaced. After dutifully breaking them in, we echo the sentiments of others: these are some of the best speakers we've heard, period.
