For sale is a pristine (for a 60-year-old amp) late 1964 vintage Fender Blackface Champ-Amp. All original hardware, tolex, and beautiful silver sparkle grill cloth.

2025 Vintage Guitar Price Guide sets the value of this AA764 Blackface Fender Champ-Amp in excellent condition at $2000 (Low) to $2500 (High). See screenshot from Price Guide.

This is "pre-CBS" as can initially be noticed by the fact that the faceplate says "Fender Electric Inst. Co." instead of "Fender Musical Instruments" on later ones. Additionally, on the back plate it indicates 'Fender Electric Instrument Co. Fullerton California".

I am the second owner of this amp, and have owned it as part of my collection for about 10 years.

The pictures speak for themselves, but the amp was all original 100% when I purchased it from the original owner. As I do with all my vintage Fender pieces, I had my tech (who almost exclusively works on vintage amps) service it and replace only what was necessary to maintain the amp's electrical and functional integrity. As usual, this only included the electrolytic caps - the filter cap can and the electrolytic caps on the circuit board. Changing the electrolytics is likened to changing the original oil in a vintage car before you drive it. Additionally, for safety, the original 2 prong cord was swapped for a grounded 3 prong cord. Finally, a single resistor that was out of spec was changed as well. All else remains 100% original from 60 years ago. Original parts that were removed are included, as pictured.

I had a custom cover hand-stitched for this amp by a dear friend, Kerry Wright in Fullerton, who has since passed, and was the cabinet maker for the who's who of the music world (Lenny Kravitz, Metallica, and more). Look him up - he was awesome.

The speaker is also original and fully intact - you can see the surround is intact and not brittle nor cracking.

As you look at the photos, you can see the dates on all the parts -

removed/replaced original electrolytic filter cap can is dated 6442 (42nd week of 1964)
removed/replaced original electrolytic caps from the circuit board are dated 6421, 6421 and 6239
the speaker cage is dated FA4764 (47th week of 1964)
the silver transformer is dated 606-4-34 (606 is Schumacher as the manufacturer, 4 is 1964, and 34 is the week)
the black transformer is dated 606-4-39
the pots are all original - you can see the date on one - 6438
the date stamped inside the chassis (circuit board side) and on the other side of the black transformer is TB4664
the date stamped on the back of the chassis FA4764
the tubes are original made in USA RCA, Mullard, and Tung-Sol
the circuit on the tube chart is AA764, and the date stamp is "NK" which is November, 1964 (N is the code for 1964, and K is the 11th letter in the alphabet indicating November)
The serial number A00533 dates to 1964 (see this link: - where it says "Champ AA764 (blackface) A00100 to A02000 - 1964"

The amp is a piece of musical history and sounds fantastic, as you can imagine.

Serious inquiries only, no trades. Low ballers need not apply. I will not respond.

This price is based on the Vintage Guitar Price Guide, recent sales on Reverb, the custom cover, and the fact that it has been serviced which is not cheap.

If the ad is up, the amp IS AVAILABLE, so please do not just stock check me by asking "is it available?" and then not replying when I say yes.
