Vintage 1943 GRETSCH Synchromatic 160 Archtop w/Cat's Eye F-Holes, Hardshell Case
Weight: 5 lbs., 12 Oz.; Scale: 24.5"; Nut: 1 14/16" (47.5mm); Lower Bout: 16.5"; Serial: # 680; Natural Finish

Up for consideration is a blonde 1943 GRETSCH Synchromatic 160 acoustic archtop w/Cat's Eye f-holes, hardshell case. This guitar is in good condition, and plays great with low action, and still room to adjust the bridge. The guitars features an asymmetrical neck profile, which places the inflection point of the neck curve not directly in the middle, but shifted over to the bass side, which is more comfortable when playing with a higher thumb position and the left hand flush against the neck. Also of note, the guitars has a handwritten in pencil Serial Number of 680, which dates it to around early 1943. The guitar has the original tuners, and has frets that have been leveled and crowned for excellent playability.

The guitar is in Good condition, and has a few dings and scuffs here and there, which is not unusual for a guitar past the 80 year-old mark. Some cosmetic issues exist involving the binding, which has separated in a few places, and the pick guard is also missing a small section at the 15th fret. The nut is rather wide for today's standards at 1 7/8", and a previous owner has scored additional string spacing slots for several of the strings, most likely to get the string spacing back to more like what they were used to. So the nut still has string slots for two different string spacings. So in all, this is a very beautiful-looking and nicely-playing vintage WWII-era Gretsch Synchromatic, which plays very well, sounds great with a nice warm tone, and good volume, and the strikingly good looks, with the unusual Cat's Eye F-Holes in a beautiful blonde finish. The guitar comes with a 17" Heritage hardshell case.
