Spector Custom Shop NS-2X Ziricote

USA Spector is starting to get back in stock.

This is the X-type (Thunderbird type) that I ordered about two years ago!

When it comes to Spector, the NS curved body is reassuring.

But since I'm going to order it anyway, I chose the X-body.

The neck is a simple 3-piece maple through-neck.

For the sides, I selected deep brown ziricote, which resembles walnut or ebony.

The head top is standard ebony, so I tried to make it look like a matching head.

The back body is Paulownia, which was also used in the EURO series.

It seems that there are few examples of this material, but wood like "paulownia" feels familiar to Japanese people.

(It also looks like ash with a deeper grain than the EURO.)

I chose it because I thought it would be relatively lightweight and have a clean sound, but what do you think?

I wanted to give the fingerboard some movement, so I chose pale moon ebony.

This is also familiar to Japanese people, and it looks like something drawn in ink painting is climbing up from the bottom.

There is still more to explain about the customization.

The position markers are the traditional Spector crowns.

However, I thought that white would stand out, so I used black pearls.

From the front, it looks like a normal pearl?

If you tilt it up, down, left, right, it changes from white to black, which was an interesting choice in its own way.

It might be a little hard to see visually! ?

So I had the side dots put in blue Luminray.

The pickups are EMG, but I wanted to go with DiMarzio, which was also used in the old Spector...

Oh! There's something with a gold cover! I thought, and decided on a gold-covered DiMarzio.

Named the Sixteen, it reproduces the sound of the 60s as its name suggests, while the interior is the latest design.

Inside the cover, which is made to fit the fingerboard radius, both the P and J are humbucking coils, making it noiseless.

The body and wiring are designed for easy solderless removal.

If the pickups are gold, then of course the hardware is gold as well.

The bridge is made of solid, heavy brass.

And now, a little more about the order.

The preamp is a HAZ 19V to match the old-fashioned DiMarzio PU.

I didn't specify any specifics, but I was happy that it was a three-band with a middle control.

In terms of the details, I had the Dunlop recessed strap pin, which is often used in high-end basses.

As you can see from the explanations I gave while remembering the time of ordering, USA Custom models can be customized quite a bit.

Oh, and while I'm at it, I also wanted a different neck shape, so I chose the Thin Neck Shape.

It's a slightly thinner, easier-to-grip shape, like the Doug model that arrived earlier.

Now, how does it sound?

Once I broke it in, it produced a very straightforward, mature, and calm sound.

It looks difficult to play, as is common to the Thunderbird series, but it actually has a very bass-like bass sound.

No matter which knob you boost on the HAZ preamp, it doesn't feel overdone,

and if you boost it aggressively and pick a little harder, the rich harmonics unique to HAZ will overflow and excite you.

The distinctive body is actually very well balanced even when you sit down.

However, there is one thing you should be careful about, the high position.

Like a Specter, it has 24 floors, but like the original Thunderbird, it naturally reaches up to about 20 floors plus 1 floor.

It may be necessary to reach out a little beyond that, but in a sense, it can be said that it was designed with a strong respect for the original + the Specter-like 24 floors to balance the appearance.

It weighs 4.5 kg, which is neither too heavy nor too light.

I apologize for the lengthy explanation, but I'm relieved that the very calming Spector sound of the past and the goodness of the historic Thunderbird shape have been combined to create a bass that you can enjoy.
