This is a very rare type of Zither that first appeared, I believe, in the 1930's. There was a big Hawaiin music craze going on and Lap Steels were becoming very popular. This instrument was looking to cash in on what was happening at that time. This design came about in the 40's. The black label with the $40 price dates it between 1950 and 1953. It looks like the Zither end with the 16 strings is set up for 4 chords, though I know nothing about Zithers so it could be more. The melody was to be played on the single string with the slide attached to the arm with the attached plectrum. Want to stand out from the crowd? Learn how to play this! Includes original chip board style case made by the Bulls Head company, known for making violin cases. Extremely rare collectors piece and very unique instrument.
