Here's a really cool guitar!
This Tokai Hummingbird Custom W-400 (1970's) sounds great and it has a cool story to it too. It's made with a spruce top, laminate rosewood back and sides, a mahogany neck, and a rosewood fingerboard and bridge. It has a 1.69" nut width, a 25.4" scale length, and it weighs 4 pounds 12 ounces. It features a 12" radius and a medium C neck shape for a nice old school feel. It does not come with a case or gig bag, and there is no pickup installed.
This guitar is in good condition. It's fully functional and it plays very well for its age, and it has a really nice balanced tone that has impressed us here in the shop. There is a pickup jack, but there is no pickup wired to it. This guitar came to us with just a hole in the strap pin position because the pickup that was in it before was taken out. We had a spare stereo jack laying around that fit it, so we put that in there so you can use a strap with this guitar.
There are other signs of play wear throughout that can be seen. The logo on the headstock was sanded off at some point, and there are some light scratches throughout as well. The neck had been broken off at some point, but it was repaired professionally. There's some clouding underneath the lacquer in a few spots, a split in the binding at the headstock, and some other light scratches. The fingerboard dips down just a little bit where the neck and body meet, but the action is at a great spot currently.
This guitar was owned by Don Kelley, who's a well-known local Nashville musician. The Don Kelley Band has hosted scores of great musicians in its lineup in the past, like JD Simo, Daniel Donato, and many others.
