This is an ultra rare Rogers Holiday 16x14 (14 head size 16 depth) floor Tom in blue and silver multi color or “duco” as some companies called it. The drum is in overall great condition. Chrome is very nice with no major rust or pitting outside of a couple little spots on the reso hoop. Very hard to notice any real imperfections from a few feet away. There is some general light pin point pitting and scratching on lugs and hoops consistent with age but nothing remotely ugly. The finish has been preserved very well with just a smattering of light nicks and flakes of paint missing (see pics). Hoops are both original. The tension rods are of two very similar types but not exact. The top side of the drum has rods that are square headed but the head is slightly shorter than the more typical rogers tall square headed rods on the bottom of the drum. A couple of the rods on the bottom show some decent rust on the heads but only a couple. Overall all of the rods are in really nice shape with clean threads And they all thread as smooth as can be. The washers also appear to be all original 60s rogers….the thin brass type.
Sat-tite legs are original as are all three mounts. Interestingly the interior washers look like Fullerton era washers. They came on the drum when I got it….im not sure how/why someone would swap out just the washers for
later rogers brand specific washers, but it seems they did. If this bothers you, flat washers and lock washers will be easy to add under these original nuts.
And then the elephant in the room. Someone (why oh why?) drilled the thing for what appears to be a throw and butt plate at some point. See the pics. Holes are not all blown out inside or outside so it will not be hard to fill them with dowel and match some paint to repaint the filled spots. I can even tell you the original flat grey interior paint recipe if you like. I considered doing this but then I figured that whoever needs this drum to complete a set will have their own methods and they will want to make sure it is done to their taste, and if I start working on the thing it makes it seem tampered with in a way that’s hiding issues, so I am just going to leave them as is, as found And let the know owner handle it. They don’t really stand out all that much as is….its not like they put a Ludwig Modular bracket on the thing right under the badge or something thank god.
The drum was missing a muffler when I got it. I ordered an era correct black felt rogers muffler in excellent condition and installed it. Also the legs came without rubber feet so I ordered some new ones and installed them. See last pic for what those look like.
Other than the holes (should you choose to address them) the thing needs nothing to be ready to play. Remo clear ambassador on bottom (new) and a lightly used clear cs black dot on top. Interior is beautiful. It never appears to have seen any moisture. All the mounting washers and screws have that beautiful rogers grey powdery consistency to them still. Edges are factory and beautiful. Quite the rare and exceptionally cool piece Of Covington history.
At any rate, is it expensive? Yes it is. Find another multi color holiday in this size to compare prices to. I’ve been into old drums for 25+ years now, and I love Rogers stuff. I’ve owned almost everything at this point. I’ve never even seen another one of these let alone had it pass through my hands.
Please ask any questions you may have. I’m happy to discuss any and all aspects of the drum and the great era of rogers manufacturing it represents!
