I am offering here a rare K. Yairi YW11-12 from 1988, a handmade in Kani, Gifu (Japan), and signed by Japanese luthier legend Kazuo Yairi 12-string vintage acoustic guitar with voluminous dreadnought body shape, selected spruce top, warm-sounding mahogany back and sides, set mahogany neck with medium-wide “C” profile and 46mm nut width, fine ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays, striped ebony bridge, high-quality K. Yairi Gotoh chrome tuners and medium-length 635mm scale in a radiant vintage sunburst satin finish with black pickguard in mint condition including original black hardshell case and professional luthier setup with 10-gauge Elixir strings.

This YW11-12 is one of the few rare 12-string models by K. Yairi and dates back to 1988. The guitar has a top made of solid selected spruce and back and sides made of mahogany. The sound created by this classic tonewood combination is immediately powerful, harmonically warm and orchestrally rich. Very present mids with brilliant highs and round basses result in an extremely dynamic, singing tone with excellent string differentiation and great tonal variety. Any kind of strumming or picking is shown to its best advantage on this guitar.

The medium-width, “C”-shaped mahogany neck, a wide 47mm bone nut, a low string action and the medium-length 635mm scale make it incredibly comfortable to play!

Visually, the guitar impresses with classic elegance: a thin satin finish in various shades of brown and red allows a view of the fine grain of the tonewoods underneath and lovingly designed details such as the cleanly finished flat-top mahogany top with rosewood veneer and “V” logo inlay, the dark ebony fingerboard with elegant mother-of-pearl dot inlays and multi-layer tortoise bindings round off the overall picture.

It is truly one of the most beautiful handmade 12-string acoustic guitars to be found in this price range today: the highest Japanese build quality, top playability and gigantic sound!

This K. Yairi YW11-12 is no longer made in this form and is extremely rare today.

Despite being over 35 years old, the guitar is in practically mint condition and technically flawless. Visually, there is only the finest wear (see pictures). The frets are flawless.
