Own a Piece of Metal History: Marty Friedman's Iconic Guitar. He is best known for his fantastic solo albums, megadeth, his band Cacophony and more. Make sure to check out the video of Marty talking about this auction!
This isn’t just any guitar; it’s a legendary instrument that helped shape the sound of metal and shred. Marty Friedman recorded several groundbreaking albums with this very guitar, including:
- Cacophony's (With Jason Becker) - Speed Metal Symphony
- Cacophony's (With Jason Becker) - Go Off!
- His Iconic Solo Albums - Dragon’s Kiss and Scenes
- Megadeth's - Rust in Peace
- Megadeth's - Countdown to Extinction
During his time with Megadeth, he used this guitar on the iconic Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction albums. If you’ve heard those albums or caught one of their live shows, you’ve heard the raw, blistering power of this axe. With over 1000 shows under its belt during Marty’s Megadeth years, this guitar is more than just an instrument—it’s a warrior of the stage.
Featured in numerous 90s magazines, Jackson catalogs, Melodic Control instructional video and advertisements, this guitar has been seen and heard by millions. It was also featured in the Jason Becker documentary ‘Not dead yet’. It has been meticulously maintained by the world’s best luthiers, including Gary Brower, ensuring its playability and tone remain exceptional. After Marty’s time with Megadeth, the guitar was retired and has since been kept in climate-controlled storage, preserving its legacy.
This guitar also one of the first 500 guitars Jackson ever built making it a true San Dimas masterpiece. See pics for the original Jackson Work Orders from 80s.
Purchase:
I am Marty's long time manager (IG account: @Marty.Friedman.manager) and I bought this guitar on Marty’s eBay auction (May 15th, 2011). The proceeds from that auction were used to benefit the Jason Becker Special Needs Trust & ALS Therapy Development Institute, making this instrument not just a piece of metal history, but also a part of an important cause.
Condition:
This guitar is a vintage treasure, showing all the signs of a well-loved, heavily played instrument. Scratches, dings, chips, cracks, and faded finishes tell the story of its intense history. But don’t let the wear fool you—the tone is still pure Marty Friedman, with those mids that cut through any mix. If you’re looking for a pristine, mint-condition guitar, this isn’t for you. But if you want a piece of metal history with a tone that’s as legendary as the albums it’s been on, you’ve found your match.
On the backplate, Marty also signed it and wrote "Speed Metal Symphony". On the hardcase, it still has the old label of Marty's home address. See pictures of the certificate for more details!
Important Details: The guitar is set up and ready to play with 10-46 strings, just like Marty always used.
