Despite my best efforts, I haven't been able to find out a whole lot about this instrument.
The headstock states "Charvel made in U.S.A.", however the heel plate reads "Jackson made in U.S.A." with serial # "002164" and address "4452 Airport Dr. Ontario CA 91761 USA". According to this website () it was made in the USA between 1984-1985 and I believe it has a Birdseye maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard and Hawaiian Koa body. I haven't been able to find any guitar that looks exactly like this one except for the poster in the photos section which leads me to believe this is fairly rare. Everything is original except the 5-way toggle and stacked volume and tone pot (originally a single volume) which were wore out when I got it. I added the strap button on the heel joint since I prefer to play in classical position. Unfortunately I misplaced the original screw so if you were to remove the strap button you would need to find a screw that didn't have the extra length.
Overall the guitar plays and sounds great. The neck is just about straight with a little extra relief in the treble side and plays beautifully. I changed the pup configuration to Neck Hum, Neck Single, Both Single, Bridge Single, Bridge Hum, which allows a wide array of sounds. When this guitar was my "#1" I used it from anything to straight ahead jazz, to fusion, heavy metal, R and B, blues, and whatever else. Definitely a great guitar for someone who needs a lot of sounds but doesn't want to bring more than one guitar.
The Specs at a glance:
-US Wilkinson Trem w/bar -Sperzel Locking tuners -Dual concentric Volume/tone Pot -5 way toggle -Dimarzio pickups -Slim, lightweight body -thin C neck -24 frets -Guthrie Govan Vibes -String tree
My 17-year-old self would be pretty disappointed in me selling this, but I need the bread and this needs a good home where it can be shred upon.
