Rich Velverty Tone!
Offered is a vintage C G Conn Chu Berry or New Wonder alto saxophone made in Elkhart, Indiana during the heyday of band instrument manufacture in the USA. Made of vintage pure brass with brass keys and lacquered. These are very hard to find in lacquer since most of the horns made during this period were either silver or gold plated. The lacquer horns are lighter giving a quicker response. Serial number 156XXX places the date of manufacture c.1925. The Chu Berry saxophone plays with the richest and most sonorous tone found on any saxophone. This model is one the early influences on the evolution of jazz and the smoky gritty sound so sought after by today's professionals. Mechanically the horn is in excellent condition, with only a few minor tools marks and minor scuffs and scratches. There are no evident dents or dings. Microtuner neck works perfectly. Despite this being an early horn it can be played at A=440. We just overhauled this incredible alto with treated kidskin pads and will include a full six month Warranty for service here at the store. Comes with the original trepac case lined in beautiful purple velvet which is still in fantastic condition. A stock mouthpiece, reeds, neck strap and cork grease will also be included.
Thanks for looking and hope to hear from you!
