As far as we know, parts for this instrument may have been made in Korea, with fit, finish and set up in California. So not sure whether to list as USA or Korea.

Very little wear. There is a watch battery sized ding below the sound hole. See last picture. In that picture to he right appears a couple of vertical squiggles. These are not scratches. They are a bit of figuration in the spruce.

For those of you who need a clean acoustic guitar to amp into small and medium venues, you owe it to yourself to try a Willcox Atlantis. We've tried a bunch of acoustics for amping and many have great sonic profiles, but few are as clean and pure as the Atlantis, which makes it easier to amp and still have a nice acoustic sound. We tried it through an SWR Strawberry Blonde alongside a Veillette and while the latter has beautiful sound, the Willcox was easier to dial in to mid and high volumes without sounding "electric".

We were excited to get these Willcox instruments into the shop. We're big fans of innovation and the laser pickup approach is quite interesting. We're pleased to say that these are solidly built, excellently finished, and the best way to describe the sound, is pure. That is, it is uncolored, clean, round, balanced, full. It is the perfect bass to layer over your unique sonic configuration, or that of your favorite artist or category. Mix it with the individual under saddle transducers for a rich clean sound.

If you start with some significantly charactered pickup, and you can't clean it up, so all your sonic modifications are colored by the base. Start with pure and you have the proverbial blank canvas for your art. These remind us of both Lace Alumitone pickups and piezo transducers that similarly transmit the natural sounds of your instrument.

And if you're looking for confirmation that the Willcox folks are onto something, check out their custom shop. Renowned builder, Mark Garza of Garz Guitars has committed to executing the Wilcox custom instruments. To have an artist of Mark's caliber committed to the Lightwave system is about as good an imprimatur as one could want. (We have a Garz bass and guitar in the museum, and they're top notch in tone and playability.)

In fact, the fellow who brought these in is going to replace them with custom Lightwave instruments, having confirmed the beauty of the laser pickups.

::: But we digress... Let's let Willcox speak for their work :::

Designed and Developed from the Ground Up
The Atlantis is a high performance, professional chambered solidbody electric guitar featuring our exclusive, patented LightWave Analog Optical Pickup System. More than a decade of research and testing came together to create the ideal platform for the Optical Pickup. Constructed of premium tonewoods with a chambered body and slash soundhole, the excellent natural acoustic resonance of Atlantis makes it equally ideal for casual playing without an amplifier and everything else in between practice and performance.

Delivering the True Sound of the Strings
The LightWave Optical Pickup’s transparent response ensures harmonically rich, deep, and powerful tone, spanning a wide range from pure, natural string sound for the ultimate in lyrical playing, to super-aggressive for all-out shredding. Extremely low noise characteristics eliminate the annoying background hum and buzz typical of conventional pickups, and with no magnetic field damping the strings, sustain is long and natural.

The Native Sound
Plug a Willcox LightWave powered Atlantis into your favorite amplifier and effects to achieve your desired tone. LightWave Optical Pickups produce high definition studio quality sound; a rich and detailed soundscape with long and natural sustain. The Atlantis Guitar features rich harmonics, clear and balanced sound, including superb touch sensitivity, note articulation, dynamic response and remarkable sustain.

Tap into the world of sound modelers
LightWave powered instruments give you a perfect blank canvas for all the popular software and hardware based modelers. You can build a complete virtual rig by modeling different guitars, preamps, power amps, effects, speaker cabinets, and mics. The Atlantis Guitar can model beautifully accurate acoustic guitars, and clean electric guitars all the way through realistic overdriven tube based electric guitars. All with great string response and feel.

Chambered Mahogany Body: Slightly brownish in its natural, dried state, with a varied wood grain, mahogany is a highly praised tone wood for acoustic and electric instruments, alike.

Solid Mahogany Neck

Premium Rosewood Fingerboard

LightWave System3 analog optical pickup system: The optical pickup system uses infrared light to sense string vibration, and features a totally separate transducer for each string, with no electrical or mechanical crosstalk between.
