Roland MKS-7 Super Quartet Multitimbral Analogue Synth
Unusual analogue synth module from Roland in the mid-80s. Features a 6-voice polysynth section that is essentially a Juno-106 with velocity sensitivity, which can be used either as a single 6-voice instrument or a two-part multitimbral mode across the "Chord" and "Melody" channels. There's a drum section taken from the TR-707, and a bass section which is sort of like a very limited SH-101.
While it's ostensibly preset-only, you can actually program patches through the front panel by putting it into "engineer mode", or more practically it can be programmed over midi using software like CTRLR (which I personally always used it with), or one of the hardware programmers that are available nowadays.
Sounds fantastic (being essentially a Juno), and this one is modded to allow an external signal to be sent through the famous Roland chorus circuit. Three of the voice chips have been replaced with new Analogue Renaissance parts (two socketed, one soldered directly), and the remaining original AR80017A chips have been de-epoxied to keep them going. Unfortunately the bass voice is starting to show signs of voice chip failure once it's been turned on for longer than an hour or so.
Comes with a pair of DIY'd rack ears, which might not be the prettiest but are chunky enough to handle the significant weight of this old girl!
