The Fender Bassman probably went through more changes than any other amplifier in the Fender lineup. Originally designed for Bass, while being adopted by Guitarists & Harmonica players, the amp would take its initial shape. Fender would experience later changes from the acquisition of CBS. All this aside, it is widely recognized that the 5F6A schematic is arguably one of the most sought after & copied by tone aficionados. Famously, these original tweed Bassman amplifiers would spearhead James Marshall Amplifiers, as the Fenders were too expensive to ship to England. Needless to say, the history of these original tweed amps shaped rock & roll - and will surely continue to with examples like this. Here we have a Bassman, with the cabinet dating December 1958 via its “HL” production stamp. Date codes on the potentiometers (137947) indicate an actual production of late 1959.

This amp is visually striking, featuring its replaced tweed tolex & grill (still housed in the original cabinet). This example has been beautifully maintained and retains all its mojo, while getting some new parts throughout that will guarantee its longevity for years to come.

While having newer filter and cathode bypass capacitors, it retains all but two of the original Sprague coupling caps, and all vintage parts throughout. It is very loud, has a fat, vintage tone and overdrives beautifully when the channels are jumpered. The Power and Output transformers are a newer premium set of transformers from Heyboer, specially produced for Allen Amps, are an excellent upgrade that will bring decades of life to the amp.

Four era correct Jensen P10R speakers, which were extracted from an old organ and re-coned with ribbed cones by Neal’s Speakers in Sacramento, CA - an authentic and accurate set that pairs perfectly with the amplifier. Newer tubeset is present, and is a Ruby 5AR4, Tung Sol 5881’s, and JJ tubes in the preamp section. Replaced 3 Prong IEC, and new handle.

Lots of edge & classic vibe to this classic amplifier, ready for the right player, studio or stage.
