Welcome to another fine guitar from The Old Europe! Please make sure to read the entire description below carefully, and look at all the pictures.

General introduction and background:

Super nice Sakai Mokko made guitar. This is from a series of models imported to Germany in the very late 1960s to early 1970s, and famously sold at mall chain Hertie (hence nick-named the “Hertiecaster”), but also other stores. This guitar is often referred to as “Teisco”, and while it has certain similarities to previous Kawai/Teisco-made guitars, it is not made by Teisco. Teisco went out of business in 1967 and was bought by Kawai. The Teisco brand was still used for some time, albeit the guitars were not made by Teisco anymore. Sakai Mokko took over the delivery of cheap guitars to Western markets in the late 1960s. This model has also been spotted with “Sakai” as badge on the headstock.

This guitar is the most famous one, it features four singlecoil pickups and the “German carve” in the body. This specific specimen seems to be from an earlier production run, like 1971-ish, as it has a solid wood body (not plywood like the later models).

I am selling this a bit cheaper as it has a couple of modifications and non-original parts.

Measurements, weight and other specs:

-Scale: 628 mm

-Nut: 41,5 mm

-Pickups: four nice and chimey single coils, 1 master volume, 1 master tone, one “rhythm” switch, measuring each between 5,5 and 5,7k.

-Weight: ~3,4 kg

-Body: solid wood

-Neck: maple stripes, some dark-red exotic wood fretboard, narrow and very low vintage frets

Condition:

-Body: Overall good condition, with a couple of dings and dongs; some lacquer damages in the neck pocket area

-Neck: straight neck, good frets (7/10), with ever so tiny crevasses, no buzz, no fretting out. No side dots! The fretboard shows signs of someone filing it down - it's not tangible though.

-Electronics: all functional

-Hardware: fully functional

-Originality: All original except for: The bridge (it is a Rickenbacker-style replacement bridge, the best choice for better intonation when the original is missing), new tremolo arm, new pickguard, new switches and pots, new tuners. Original body, neck, stoptail, and pickups.

Sound and Playability:

-Playability and string action: The guitar plays easily with a string action of 1,8 mm at the 12th fret. Slim C neck, no side dots.

-Sound: nice warm and vintage singlecoil goodness. Ideal for rhythm guitar in a garage, indie pop or drone scenario. Please check out the video of a demo of this kind of guitar.
