Welcome to another fine guitar from The Old Europe! Please make sure to read the entire description below carefully, and look at all the pictures.

General introduction and background:

Super rare Hüttl “Beat Star”. Made in 1965, according to the date stamp on the inside. While no maker badge or marks are on the guitar, one can allocate this guitar to Hüttl due to a lot of features common on the (rare) Hüttl solidbody guitars of the time. The guitar has undergone extensive restoration and is now fully playable.

As always, the instrument has been serviced completely and is ready to be played immediately.

Measurements, weight and other specs:

-Scale:  618 mm

-Nut: ca 43 mm

-Weight: 2,9 kg

-Pickups: three Schaller singlecoils, measuring each ~7,6-7,9k. The controls are: pickup selector rotary (bridge + neck, bridge, middle, neck); two separate identical circuits controlled by a slider switch, with each individual tone and volume controls. These allow for two different sounds available at the flick of the switch. Additionally, there is a treble circuit which switches to the bridge pickup and takes out all the bass immediately for a very thinned out sound.

-Body: light solid wood, probably birch

-Neck: very thin C shaped neck, probably maple with what looks like an ebony fingerboard. The radius is at about 7-9’’. Medium frets, apparently not original.

Condition:

-Body: The body is in good conditions, but had a lot of fissure and lacquer issues around the neck pocket. These have been fully stabilized with very thin super glue.

-Neck: neck is straight, trussrod works. The frets are apparently not original, and have been polished and addressed as good as possible within the limits of this restoration (of course one can always do more or do an entire refret. There are a couple of buzzy areas especially higher up on the fretboard. Just play over them

-Hardware: in good shape, mostly Schaller parts. The tuners are not original; the tip of the trem arm is a bit "breaky"

-Electrics: everything works as it should; one switch had to be replaced.

-Originality: all original except for one switch, and the tuners.

Sound and Playability:

-Playability and string action: I think this has a decent to even good playability with a string action dialed in at about 2 mm on the 12th fret. It is not a shred machine, but you can play easily and even do some soloing and bending.

-Sound: It has a very warm, very vintage-ish sound, not super trebly (unless you flick on the treble switch) and for me is ideal for the kind of rhythm playing for 60s stuff, or retro indie stuff. Please watch the video for some sound samples on what you can expect.

Repairs, Service:

As always, the instrument has been serviced completely and is ready to be played immediately.

-Frets polished and fretboard cleaned and oiled

-Treble switch replaced

-Tuner pegs replaced

-New set of Pyramid 10 gauge strings put on

-Ready to be played (just tune it up);
