We are proud to offer this venerated iteration of the Fender Tweed Deluxe from 1951. It certainly holds it weight in gold and it simply drips tone like no other. The Fender tweed Deluxe is considered by many the perfect recording amp. According to Tom Wheeler's The Soul of Tone, "According to Richard Smith, Leo Fender's records revealed that 1,539 Deluxes were shipped in 1951. [...] Famed for its rectifier sag at higher volumes, smooth compression, and eagerness to lapse into creamy distortion, the Deluxe would become the most revered 1x12 combo of all time, a cornerstone of the Fender line and an indispensable tool for countless players at all levels. Author Dave Hunter: 'It flatters the traditional electric blues soloist like few other amps out there'" (Wheeler, pgs. 135-136). This iteration of the Deluxe uses grid-leak bias for the first gain stage resulting in sweet overdriven tone and fat honk that grid-leak stages seem to uniquely give amps. Since these amps also use what is known as paraphase phase inverter (see-saw inverter) which was common in many amplifiers of the day. This style of phase inverter is less hi-fi and imparts a certain grittiness to the amp. To sum it all up, the overdrive is divine.
It features a vintage tube complement, vintage Phillips 5Y3 and GE 6V6 power tubes, which also includes a very sought after pair of blackplate smoked 6SL7 preamp tubes that test very strong. We are also including for free some extra preamp tubes that each offer a special sonic presence (a pair of Tung-Sol 6SL7's, a vintage National Union 6SL7 and a vintage GE 6SL7). This tube line up will give you many different tonal options for recording, or simply enjoying in your music room. Because of its octal preamp circuit, this amp has a haunting midrange and overall sounds amazing with its coveted, hairy, compressed gain. It has wonderful chime and glow, and is capable of rich and creamy overdrive. An absolute fantastic option for recording. The original speaker is a P12R dated 220110, translating to the 10th week of 1951. The inside of the chassis also bears the coveted masking tape labeled "Lily" who was the one who wired this amp and inspected it. The tweed is all original and has aged wonderfully. The amp will come with some of its original components that were changed out, including the 2-prong power cable and 1 of the red Astron caps. I would highly encourage using a BrownBox or similar voltage reducer to protect this amp from the modern wall voltages. It truly preserves the tone and ensures the life of the components. You can truly own this piece of Fender history and enjoy all that it has to offer. With 12-15 watts from two 6V6 output tubes through a 12” Jensen speaker in a finger jointed pine cab. This example features a naturally aged original tweed covering and original grill cloth. The amp has been gone over by the tech and is ready for decades to come. The rarity of this early model make this one a great find. Please view my other listings for more vintage Fender amps.
