If you're looking for a war-time/pre-war 000 Martin Herringbone... this is it!

1944 Martin 000-28 Herringbone flat top. The case is a newer Martin Eric Clapton Signature casse.

The guitar was acquired from the son of the original owner, who bought it prior to the end of WWII, in 1944. There's a letter from the son that describes the father's ownership- he played the guitar in a number of western NC (Shelby area) bluegrass/country bands and was on several radio shows in the 1940s. He even knew Earl Scruggs and worked at the same mill as Earl in the Shelby, NC area. According to his father's account, Earl Scruggs actually played the guitar and jammed with his father on occasions. There are a few pictures of "Hap", the original owner, with the guitar in a few quartets in that area, and era. One was featured in the Shelby newspaper. So, you get some unique history with this one!

There's also a repair list with the history that was done locally by Mike Weems, a Martin Authorized Luthier. He reset the neck, refretted the board, and replaced the bridge and saddle. There had been some kind of piece of wood attached to the bridgeplate to help fill the wear from replacing strings. Mike removed that and restored the original bridgeplate.

It has some wear, but there are no repaired cracks or any structural compromises. It has the original finish and shows it's 81 year-old age very well! The more you play it,the more it opens up and really breathes and resonates!

This is a chance to snag a really sweet, un-circulated pre-war Herringbone with a unique history attached that plays, sounds and looks incredible!
