Steve Smith is one of the greatest drummers of our time. Modern Drummer magazine readers voted him the No. 1 All-Around Drummer five years in a row. In 2001, the publication named Smith one of the Top 25 Drummers of All Time, and in 2002 he was voted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Journey in 2017
This 1968 5x14" Ludwig Acrolite snare drum was part of Steve Smith's collection of studio snare drums. The drum is in excellent condition with no notable issues. The pictures tell it like it is. Steve signed both the top and bottom heads as well as the inside of the shell. The snare includes a letter of authentication from Steve Smith.
Here's what Steve had to say about this drum. "While living in the SF Bay Area from 1978-2006, I did many sessions for artists and producers as a drummer for hire. This 1968 Ludwig Acrolite was part of my collection of “must have” snare drums that I used for various recording sessions during this period. The Acrolite has the classic Rock ’n’ Roll sound that so many producers were looking for. It was one of the snares I used on the Journey album “Trial By Fire,” as well as many sessions such as “Shaw/Blades” (with Jack Blades, Tommy Shaw), “Chromaticity” (Tony MacAlpine) and albums with artists Neil Zaza, Stef Burns and more".
