I am helping sell this amp for a friend that has owned it for over 20 years. He bought it from a local wheeler-dealer who acquired it from the original owner. It looks to be very intact and original. It works as it should and sounds incredible. Anything and everything that has ever been said about the tweed Super is present and accounted for in this one
- though the tube chart shows model 5E4, this is the 5F4 circuit w/ 6L6's
- serial #S01684 (chassis and tube chart)
- tube chart date code "GJ" = October of '57
- Jensen P10Q's dated 17th week of '57
- speakers reconed with vintage correct parts with "SRC RPG 5-18-14" written on back of cone (they sound fantastic)
- the chassis looks to be all original including all transformers (Triad), pots, jacks, switches, Astron caps, etc.
- original tweed, grill cloth, baffle, logo plate, back panels, knobs, pilot jewel, harness, etc.
- looks like there was a non-original handle at some point but the original clasps are back on with an older leather strap. No visible holes from the other handle, just a light impression as seen in the photos
-looks to have all the original back panel screws, feet, etc. (newer washers and nuts holding the speakers, likely after the recone)
- all US made tubes including a nice matched pair of Phillips ECG 6L6WGB's
- original grey power cord (w/replaced plug)
- there is normal wear from age and use but the cabinet is solid with no cracks, no extra holes, no water damage. The tweed has a beautiful golden amber glow and the control panel has a nice burnished patina. This amp has a very handsome vintage presence
The Super was reportedly Leo Fenders favorite from his lineup, and the late 50's narrow panel tweeds are legendary for a reason. The Super is relatively rare. Fender probably made and sold ten times as many Champs and Deluxes (perhaps Bassmans as well?) as they did Supers, and the Super was a gigging musician's amp, not a beginner's bedroom amp, so finding one this intact and original is extremely rare
I'll be happy to provide more detailed info or photos
