The Korg EA-1 is a dual seqencable monosynth, allowing for creation of simutaneous rhythm and lead parts, shifting pads, etc.

The bottom keys are both a playable (and recordable) keyboard and the step sequencer-- pitches can be recorded live or with a step input. Control parameters like envelope depth or filter cutoff can be recorded with motion sequences and edited manually for fine-tuning.

There is also an audio input, so that live audio can be sequenced with the EA1's effects along with an oscillator, and I'm a big fan of oscillator sync (a ringmod and decimator are also available, for extra clang).

The unit has a dedicated headphone out, and both sequenced parts can have their own output or be mixed together for a single out, and there are individual ports for MIDI In/Out/Thru. Another nice feature is the EA-1 can be set to a MIDI channel for external control, or Part 1 can be on its own MIDI channel and Part 2 can have a different channel, for individual control of each.

The Korg Electribe series has always been one of my favorite user experiences-- I love the workflow on these-- but I seldom had need for a hardware synthesizer like this back in the day, and now it's just taking up space.

My EA-1 is in excellent shape (as pictured) but requires a standard Boss-style center negative 9v adapter (not included.)
