This is a very cool 1972 Fender Thinline Telecaster featuring Fender's legendary Wide Range humbucker pickups. (Check out A Brief History of the Fender Wide Range Humbucker in Reverb News). The guitar is original except the following known modifications.
- Replacement pickguard
- Replacement tuners (see holes from previously installed tuners)
- Brass nut installed
- Refinished body
It weighs 7.25 lbs and is in overall very good shape for a 50 year old instrument and it plays and sounds great.
It has a naturally-worn maple fingerboard, nice aged and checked lacquer on the headstock and minor wear and dings on the neck and body. I realize the paint job is probably a love it or hate it proposition. This is how I bought it and I toyed with refinishing it. You can see the wood grain pattern and it appears to be a beautiful slab of wood that would be beautiful as a natural finish, but I'll leave that decision up to the new owner.
It comes with what I assume to be the original case, which is in pretty rough shape with shrunken tolex exposing the wood construction. The hardware including handles and latches function as they should.
