This is a beautiful 4 piece 1954 Leedy & Ludwig drum set in original “Sparkling Red Pearl.” Made in Elkhart, Indiana. All 4 drums have 5411 stamped on their white interiors, and the beaver tail lugs are the nickel finish(not chrome). Rims are also nickel. The sparkling red pearl shows some slight wear, but is still in good shape for its age. The drums still look amazing under stage lighting. It’s a finer sparkle, compared to typical red sparkle wraps, closer to a glass glitter. The dimensions are as follows: 14x22 bass, 16x16 floor, 9x13 tom, and 5 1/2x14 snare.

Bass drum - 14x22 New Era model (Mod. No. 5098) with rail mount for tom and circular turret bracket for cymbal mount. Bass hoops have original inlay intact and inlay is tight to hoops. Included is 1 pair of Adjustable Giant Spurs (Mod. No. 7098) that clip directly onto the bass drum hoop. Hoops have marks from clip on spurs and pedal. Also includes shell mounted ”L” cymbal holder (Mod No. 9058?). Bolt replacing original wing nut on cymbal holder. Wrap seams are tight with no splitting. Reinforcement hoops are solid to shell. Bearing edges are good with no issues. T rods and claws are slightly tarnished/rusted but function properly. MODIFICATION: 70’s Slingerland spurs were added to the shell, however, they are not in the correct position when drum is positioned for playing. Please see pictures showing modification to shell. I have preferred to use the original clip-on spurs directly on the hoops and they work perfectly fine for gigging. I planned on removing the Slingerland spurs and have the holes filled professionally, but never got around to it. Ludwig clear power collar head on batter, Aquarian American Vintage head on reso, with port.

Floor tom - 16x16 Broadway model (Mod. No. 8034) with 3 legs. Outfitted with internal “perpendicular“ tone control (Mod. No. 8107). Wrap seam tight, no splits, and reinforcement hoops are good. Bearing edges good with no issues. Single flange rims with collar hooks. One of the leg bracket tension screws is not original. I’m also including 2 extra legs that are both slightly bent. 5 legs total. Outfitted with Aquarian American Vintage heads.

Ride tom - 9x13 Broadway model (Mod. No. 8038), with same internal tone control. Wrap seam tight, no splits, and reinforcement hoops are good. Bearing edges good with no issues. Single flange rims and collar hooks. The tom’s resonant side collar hooks and tension rods are non-original and chrome. I will ship the tom with the mount removed, for better protection. Outfitted with Aquarian American Vintage heads.

Snare drum - 5.5x14 Broadway model (No. 390) with Broadway extension snare strainer, original Leedy & Ludwig snare wires, and same internal tone control. Outfitted with Remo heads. The drum has slight damage to the shell ply where the butt end fixture is mounted, see pictures for detail. This doesn’t affect playability and sound. The resonant side reinforcement hoop is not damaged and the shell is still solid. Snare mechanism is sticky but still functional. Wrap seam is tight, no splitting. Bearing edges good with no issues.

ACCESORIES-

1. Rail mount (Mod. No. 7714) for tom. One piece of the mount has been welded/repaired, but is still functional. One tension screw is not original. I would suggest mounting the tom in a snare basket or hang via rims mount rather than use this original mount.

2. Wood block/cowbell holder (Mod. No. 7612) with one 7.5” wood block (No. 7681) and 3.5” cowbell (No. 7795). The holder can mount two cowbells but I only have the one bell.

3. Broadway snare stand (No. 7382). Stand is very rusty and the shrink tubing is cracked and flaking off. One rubber foot is gone.

4. 2 original Leedy and Ludwig Hardwhite tom-tom heads mounted on flesh hoops - 13” (mod. No. M8082) and 16” (mod. No. M8080). These calf heads have shrunk slightly so they would need to be prepped before mounting. The 13” has some splits around the hoop but the 16” has none.

5. One vintage drum stool, not sure of brand, but looks similar to Leedy and Ludwig model in the catalog. The bracket under the seat has been repositioned at one point, but is solid.

6. Spikes included for the 70’s Slingerland spur brackets that are mounted on bass drum.

This is a rare and beautiful kit that is a joy to behold, record and play.
