Formed in 1986 in Buffalo, New York, the Goo Goo Dolls' early sound was rooted in punk rock. The Goo Goo Dolls gained widespread recognition with their hit single "Name" from the album A Boy Named Goo (Warner Brothers Records, 1995). They reached even greater heights of popularity with the release of "Iris" in 1998, a song that became synonymous with the soundtrack of the film City of Angels (Warner Brothers, 1998).
