Wow! -Original vintage Northern Radio manufactured Royal Canadian Air Force commissioned AM-5185 G tube microphone/ compression amplifier in gorgeous working condition, freshly serviced, modded, and just, yeah, WOW. This listing is for the single (top) unit pictured, with rogan knobs. (Please see related listing for the matched pair pictured below.)
These are complete audio amplifiers, with appx 50 dB of input gain; suitable for all tube and condenser mics, and most dynamics, or line level processing. I do adore having the extra gain to drive line level sources at smashy levels in to the compressor/ limiter/ expander section, for some wild sonic possibilities. Definitely has shades of telefunken v72/ RCA BA federal AM864 vari-mu, vibes, gobs of tube saturation and smeary, smooshy goodness. Killer.
This was purchased NOS, serviced, and modded for front panel control for compressor threshold and ratio, as well as controls for input gain, output gain, and expansion. XLR pigtails included.
