Here we have a really cool player grade 1967 Gretsch Country Club. According to the serial, this one seems to be from November of ‘67 and sports the “Made in USA” stamp indicating that it’s from the early days of the Baldwin Era. This generation of the Country Club has been known to flex between multiple different genres. It’s great for Jazz and Country, but also happens to be a favorite of Punk Rock pioneer, Tim Armstrong!

This particular Country Club has certainly done its time on the road and has the scars to prove it. There are a few dents on the back of the neck and the frets are low in height, but don’t show much pitting. There are a couple of screw holes in the side of the guitar from what may have been an armrest.  It also has a case of binding rot throughout the guitar, but it’s most noticeable when playing on the second fret bass side.

Despite its cosmetic condition, this CC sounds great plugged in and is a lot of fun to play! The guitar is also almost entirely original minus the upgraded Bigsby. Also included is the original Gretsch case. It has the “Arrangement  #3 (Tone-Switch Circuit with Standby)” control layout which is as follows:

  1. Pickup Selector: Switch for selecting the pickup position (rear for neck, middle for mixed, front for bridge).
  2. Master Tone Selector: Tone control switch so that the tone can be selected from three settings. The rear position emphasizes bass, the middle is neutral and the front offers a slight high-frequency roll-off.
  3. Master Volume: For adjusting overall volume.
  4. Neck Pickup Volume: For controlling the neck pickup volume.
  5. Bridge Pickup Volume: For controlling the bridge pickup volume.
  6. Standby: In the center position, no sound is produced, regardless of the volume controls. Sound is produced when switched to either side position.
