About this listing

This is a original dbx 160 from the mid 70's. I purchased it new in the mid 70's. It is all there, never abused and in storage the last 20 years. It powers on as show in photos... I am unable to test beyond that. It has never been repaired, nor has it needed it when I used it etc... So everything is as originally built... Note: shipping price is USA only... other locations can be arranged etc.

Overview

The DBX 160 (also referred to as 160 VU), designed by David Blackmer and released in 1976, is an early VCA (voltage-controlled amplifier) type compressor / limiter. This half-rack unit features simple controls (threshold, compression, output) and a large VU meter with switchable function.

It is widely used as a transient-shaping effect for percussive sounds, particularly kick drum, snare drum, and picked electric bass guitar.
