Wonderful Ariel Ameijenda Workshop Concert 630mm

Ariel Ameijenda is one of the finest guitar builders in the Western Hemisphere.

His instruments are carried in the US by GSI in Los Angeles, the gold standard of dealers, and retail for $9000.

This mint instrument was build largely by Ariel, along with his son Ishmael. It carries the son's label and signature, but the Master's hand is clearly evident in this guitar.

Full French Polish, lovely woods (and back) and concert-quality tone in a easy to play 630mm (the same scale length as a Gibson Les Paul!).

In this price range, and beyond, the competition dims by comparison - you will immediately notice the differences between this fine luthier shop guitar and the more mass-produced competitiion.

Simple excellent, something to keep, and a fantastic bargain.

(Regarding another guitar, not this particular one): The sound is very focused with a clear and very firm fundamental at the core of every note, yet each note is also surrounded by a warm, complementary layer of rich overtones, giving it a full-bodied sound without the loss of clarity.

The guitar also has great projection and power for its slightly more compact build, and the playability is very easy on both hands. This is a great concert instrument by any standard, from the most respected luthier currently working out of Uruguay

Maestro Eduardo Fernández

"I have tried Ariel Ameijenda’s guitars and I can testify to the extraordinary quality and consistence of his work, his deep knowledge of the different woods and his attention to detail. His instruments not only have a beautiful tone, but also exhibit evenness in the various registers, remarkable transparency and are obedient to the wishes of the player. These instruments are so human they only lack the gift of speech…but that would be the task of the player. I recommend them without any reservation."

Site Bio

Ariel Ameijenda was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1963, the son of one of that country’s most famous guitar makers, Manuel Ameijenda. Ariel’s father had learnt this difficult art from Juan Carlos Santurion. Santurion had studied at Fleta’s workshop in Barcelona, Spain in the early 1950’s.

The elder Ameijenda opened his own shop in 1957, and shared it for several years with Jose Lopez Cubillo. Cubillo had been the lead craftsman at the workshop of Jose Ramirez II in Madrid, Spain. Consequently, in a short period of time, Ariel’s father had the opportunity to learn techniques from the two leading schools of guitar building in Spain, located in the cities of Madrid and Barcelona.

Ariel’s father also acquired a great amount of knowledge repairing the guitars made by the world’s finest makers. Andres Segovia lived in Montevideo for nine years, and where the maestro went, fine guitars followed. Thus, Montevideo was the home of far more than its fair share of excellent instruments. Guitars by Hauser, Simplicio, Santos Hernandez, and many others flowed through the Ameijenda workshop for adjustments and maintenance giving him a close up look at the work of these masters.

As a child helping in his father’s workshop, Ariel learned the finest techniques used by world class makers of classical guitars and renaissance and baroque string instruments. More importantly, the passion necessary for such pursuits came to him quite naturally and very early in life. At the age of 14, under his father’s guidance, Ariel progressed from helping with repairs to the construction of his first instruments.

When he was 19, Ariel entered the University where he studied Musicology. During those four years, he paid special attention to the subjects of Acoustics and Music History. These were very useful studies which have greatly influenced his approach to the construction of guitars and ancient instruments.

In 1997 Ariel opened his own workshop in Montevideo. He now sells guitars and period string instruments to musicians all over the world. Recently, his reputation has widened considerably after presenting his instruments at two events in the United States. In 2007 at the Alexandria Guitar Festival in Alexandria, Virginia and in 2008 at the New York Guitar Seminar in Manhattan. A long list of enthusiastic critiques from concert artists and others are shared in another section of the website.

His guitars are represented in USA by Guitar Salon International.

At present, Ariel also works as a teacher at the Escuela Universitaria de Música (University School of Music) teaching ¨Guitar: History of its construction from the Renaissance to the Twenty-first Century¨. In 2011 he teaches this same course at the Universidad Federal de Paraná (Federal University or Parana) in Argentina, and at the EMBAP Guitar Academic Symposium in Curitiba, Brazil.

In order to respond to the growing list of orders placed to purchase his guitars, in 2014 Ariel moves to the heavenly settings of the Cerro de los Burros near the city or Piriapolis in the East Coast of Uruguay, to be able to fully commit to the manufacturing or the finest guitars in a workshop personally designed by him for this purpose.

Since 2016, his guitars are sold in Europe by Siccas Guitars, included in "Masters Guitars" category.
