We are extremely impressed with the level of craftsmanship and versatility that Rick Turner has achieved with this model. The tonewoods used are gorgeous and the compact body size with its versatile design create a very inviting playing experience before you even plug the instrument into the amplifier. Speaking of which, strumming this Model 1, before plugging in, yields a surprisingly resonant and lively experience. Prepare to be astonished at the range of sonic possibilities of this instrument when you do plug it in! The control layout is unique but quickly understandable within a few minutes of reviewing what each knob does and tweaking each to experience the wide range of tones. At first blush, it seemed that the lack of a bridge pickup would limit the guitar’s ability to achieve biting tones to cut through the mix. However, after a few minutes of exploring the sonic range of each knob, it quickly became apparent that this guitar covers an incredible amount of tones. Then, blend in the acoustic tones via the piezo and discover the universe of sounds this instrument can achieve. This is the guitar that Lindsey Buckingham embraced, replacing his Les Paul, Strat, and Ovation guitars, giving him all of the sonic range of timbres that he needed in a single instrument.

This Model 1 Standard is a beautiful example of what the good folks at Rick Turner Guitars can create. The Koa top is stunning and they absolutely achieved the finish we were hoping to achieve; it is visually remarkable. The pictures do not do it justice. The Mahogany back is also a beautiful example. The Flame Maple neck and Indian Rosewood fretboard with Paua Shell inlays round out the tonewoods with understated and very classy black binding on the top, neck, and headstock. The full electronic suite is included in this package with an active preamp and active semi-parametric EQ with piezo pickup. The versatility of this guitar is incredible. Rick’s brilliant design yields a guitar with an amazing range of voices. This is the only guitar you’ll need for a gig.
