For sale is an AKAI CR-80D-SS surround stereo 8 track player recorder. It is in good condition Albeit with a couple small chips and dings as shown. It has been tested the heads have been cleaned and demagnetized and the pots and switches have been sprayed  and everything works fairly well.  It records and plays back with clear sound almost as good as a CD depending on the type of tape that you use and the fast forward seems to work OK as well. Price is $549.99!

Here are some specs:
Frequency response: 10 - 16,000 Hz
Signal to noise Ratio: better than 45 dB
Wow and flutter: less than 0.25%

Due to habitual tirekickers and Because my time as a seller is extremely valuable and I would like to reserve it for serious paying customers, I have made a list of FAQS:

1. “What is your lowest/best price?”

Number 1: I do not negotiate against myself and number 2: that is what the Make an Offer button is for, so such inquiries defeat the purpose. I will gladly listen to any reasonable offers if you’re serious about buying and work with you in anyway that I can on the price. However, this DOES NOT MEAN I am looking to give my items away “for cheap”.

NOTE: all limited discount offer prices are FIRM and offers won't be accepted during that time period.

2. “Do you have anything cheaper for sale?”

Visit my Reverb store for all of my listings. What you see is what I have listed for sale. Every attempt is made to have new listings regularly.

3. I am looking for a specific tape deck or a specific model (e.g. 2-Track, 15 IPS). Can you recommend one?

I would recommend visiting my Reverb store to look for a deck of your choice. Once again, what you see listed is what I have for sale.

4: “I like your listing and am interested in your tape deck, but it is not in my price range.”

My only advice is to purchase a tape deck that is more in line with your price range. There are plenty of other ones out there.

NOTE that adding this to your watchlist and/or shopping cart and holding out or “pressuring me” for a significant price reduction a few weeks later WILL NOT WORK! Listings still up after 21 days will be DELETED AND REPOSTED to keep things fresh!

There is absolutely NO DISRESPECT INTENDED HERE! Quite the contrary! I have 20 years of experience in fixing and selling reel to reel decks and I’ve gotten business from all over the world. My time, knowledge, years of experience, and efforts cleaning, rigorously testing and (tediously) repairing these decks to ensure they work like they’re supposed to have VALUE, SO I AM NOT LOOKING TO GIVE THEM AWAY FOR CHEAP (which unfortunately some people are expecting)! If you’re on a budget or simply unwilling to pay for a tape deck that actually works like it should, then your best option is to look elsewhere and I wish you the best of luck!

It is truly disheartening that there are still people who don’t ”get it” when it comes to the rigorous and labor-intensive process of repairing and restoring these tape decks to ensure they work like they are supposed to.

5: “Do you take trades?”

No, I do not. Aside from the cost of shipping both items both ways, too many people have made trade offers on items that I could not make money on. If you have an item that you think is sought after, you should list it for sale.

6. “Do you offer repair services to the public?”

No, I do not. Aside from my heavy workload and schedule, the shipping costs and risks, and the fact that I do not have the space to take in other peoples units, I cannot guarantee that every unit is fixable.

7. “Can you come down on the shipping price?”

No. The shipping price is in my listings not only take into account the weight of the package, but also the cost of packing material, boxes, and insurance to ensure that the item arrives to my customers in one piece.

8. “Can you help me with mixing and mastering or loops?”

I’m sorry, no. I am not qualified to give such advice. My primary responsibility is to ensure that every tape deck arrives working like it is supposed to on all of the functions. You will need to consult with a professional or a studio engineer for any kind of mixing and mastering advice.

I do apologize if I come off sounding like a jerk about this and for the length of this, but I felt I needed to get this out there. In my experience, if I spell out everything clearly and unmistakably to where there is no room for misunderstanding or error, VOILA! I get great customers who understand where I’m coming from, the value, the time, the money, and the labor invested into restoring these tape decks to ensure they work like they are supposed to and everybody’s happy. Unfortunately, there are people out there who want to play games and waste my time for all the wrong reasons. As a result, I am on a hair trigger when it comes to such foolishness. That is how valuable my time is.

What many people DO NOT realize is that DJZ Vintage Audio is essentially self-managed. In addition to the hard work put into restoring and testing these units, as well as hunting down the parts needed for such restorations, I do all the listings, take all the pictures, spend at least 15-30 minutes filming demo videos of each deck for listings, pre-shipment video tutorials so the customer has proof the deck left my place in working order and 30-45 minutes or more packing these decks for safe shipment. Yes, I actually have to buy all the packing material (bubblewrap, boxes, dense foam blocks, etc...) Furthermore, I take pictures of my packing so the customer has proof the deck was packed properly when it left here (not something many sellers do). With all of this work, comes a lot stress and it can be rather taxing on the body. This is how I make my living, pay the bills and put food on the table. These are the many reasons a great working tape deck is NOT cheap, so Just a little food for thought.

If you are serious about making a purchase, but you would like to have a “get to know me and trust me“ conversation or have a last minute question before making a purchase, I’m perfectly happy to talk to you.

SHIPPING AND WARRANTY:

The shipping is $85 in the lower 48 states which ALSO includes secure packing. This item will be packed with large bubble wrap, dense insulated foam on all sides and a new box so it arrives in one piece. A LOT of money is invested in this packing material and unlike some sellers who don’t seem to care that a carelessly packed deck results in a broken knob, spindle, or other damages, I spend at least a 1/2 hour packing each of these decks! The price on packing material and boxes is skyrocketing, so I am not making any money on this! Reverb Safe Shipping insurance is also added to cover both myself and the buyer in the event something should happen during shipment rendering the deck inoperable. In the event an insurance claim needs to be filed, DO NOT discard the packing material and box!

Most shipments go out within 24-48 hours and, in some cases, the same business day. Please note that once an item ships out, the seller has NO CONTROL over how fast it gets to the buyer!

A Pre shipment video of each deck operating properly will be filmed the day it ships out and it may be sent to the buyer at anytime. The buyer agrees to accept this as proof that the deck left my place in working condition (VERY few sellers actually do this for their buyers). There is no further warranty or guarantee other than the 7 day guarantee it will arrive working as described in the listing (which begins the day the item is delivered.) After the time period expires, the sale becomes final.

RETURNS AND REFUNDS:

If in any case the buyer chooses to return the item within the 7 day time period and receive a refund, the buyer agrees that I require up to 3 calendar days after receiving the returned item to initiate that refund. Refunds will be MINUS the shipping costs (does NOT APPLY to as is items).

A 15% restocking fee will apply to returns made for the following reasons:

The buyer changed their mind
The buyer can’t afford it
The spouse does not like it
The unit was working as described, but it did not meet the buyer’s expectations
No fault is found with the unit after testing it (in this case, a new video will be filmed showing proof of the item in proper working order)

This policy is necessary to make up for lost shop time.

OTHER POLICIES:

Under NO circumstances will I tolerate any type of abusive or aggressive behavior, regardless of why anyone might feel it is justified! If you treat me with respect, I will treat you with respect and I will help you out in anyway that I can to ensure that you have a pleasant buying experience.

All decks are cleaned, adjusted, serviced, and rigorously tested before they are listed to ensure they work properly. I have attempted to describe, as accurately as possible the description of every tape deck, including the cosmetic issues and any other issues that I may find and take plenty of clear pictures so you see exactly what you get. Please keep in mind that most of these decks are 40+ years old and therefore may contain cosmetic flaws including, scuffs, marks, nicks, scratches and dings from age, handling, servicing, and past use.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS!
