Bortolo Busato (1910-1960) was a Parisian luthier originally from Chiuppano, in the North of Italy. His guitars continue to be highly sought after by musicians and collectors alike and have become iconic symbols of the Gypsy jazz community. The list of musicians who have played Busato's, reads like a who's who of the gypsy jazz world: some of the most famous names include talents like Django Reinhardt himself.

Busato's impact on the world of gypsy jazz and his contributions to the world of lutherie cannot be overstated. His commitment to craftsmanship and dedication to creating instruments that not only sound great but are also visually stunning, is something that is appreciated to this day. His undeniable legacy lives on through his tremendous grand model 44-46 guitars, a testament to his exceptional talent and craftsmanship, which continue to inspire musicians and new generations of gypsy jazz luthiers.

While Busato initially set out to copy Selmer's instruments to serve the lower end of the market, he soon developed a unique style of building that made his guitars so sought after and also set them apart from any other luthier brand. They are well-known for their innovative design and construction and for their deep, rich sound and ability to project even in large concert halls without amplification. Even more so than Selmer's guitars did.

For a longer history of Busato guitars I recommend reading the excellent article written by Arnaud Legrand for Guitar Mag BUSATO – Guitar Mag (guitaremag.com) BUSATO
