The Vish, or V-ish.

I built this as I've not built a V-Style instrument up to this point and wanted to get a feel as to whether I'd like to work up a design. It therefore stands as a prototype, though isn't marked as such. It will remain a one-off in respect to featured headstock.

The body is mirrored from the rear end of a Moderne, so not actually likened to a trad V. The crotch drops further and so it actually lends itself well to a long scale instrument, allowing the bridge to sit further back, however, the bridge was changed through the process of building and this unit does sit a few millimeters off the rear.

The body is European Ash, dense and hard.

The neck is beech with a tanga tanga fretboard and walnut face. The carve is a comfortable c, though I like chunky, slab fretboards so that adds a little extra depth. A volute is present.

Scale is 34".

Radius is 12".

The balance of the instrument is actually very good on a strap. Seated play is restricted.

The finish is automotive cellulose spray throughout. Comparable to Nitrocellulose, it is neither the thickest nor the most robust finish, although this formular is more resistant to UV.

I consider my finish application to be experienced-amateur. I continue to improve through experience but always reflect potential for.imperfection with good/excellent condition ratings. Any major flaws are described in photos.

The green lacquer's base can be described as emerald. It has a subtle metallic pearl to it, which reflects yellow. Quite hard to capture in photos.

21 jumbo nickel-silver frets.

41-42mm brass nut.

Brass fretboard inlays and side dots are brass with abs filler.

Hardware is Korean/Wilkinson throughout and is of a good standard in use with a well setup instrument.

I fabricate my own pickups and this humbucker is a fairly high output unit. The pole pieces are steel hex bolts (non-adjustable but correct to a 12" radius), backed with 10mm neodymium tablet magnets.

Controls are a master volume and tone (250k mini CTS) with a three way switch. The capacitor is a .022.

The three-way switch gives access to both coils plus the middle humbucking position. I wanted to provide access to the front coil as, in my opinion, it is the superior sound - being brighter and generally more aggressive than the full humbucker. The rear coil is slightly duller than the front coil. The full humbucker has plenty of power with a good low end punch and obviously the added benefit of bucking the 60hz hum.

The jack is a screw-in unit.

Plastics throughout are transparent green 3mm cast acrylic.

I build most of my stock instruments for fun and I fully comprehend that my tastes are not the tastes of all players. As such, I don't really need reminding of that 🙂.

Video evidence will be provided asap and I will update with any potential missing info.
