Original 1971 Sound Techniques console (26x16x8). Last one (out of 14 desks made) in existence and last original and complete Sound Techniques "A Range" (the one that inspired the Trident A Range desks). Originally installed in 1971 for DeLane Lea CTS/Wembley Music Center, the largest recording studio in Europe at the time.

Same original Sound Techniques "A Range" class of desks that were installed at DeLane Lea Studios, Trident Studios, Elektra Sound Records and Sunset Sound and which recorded Pink Floyd, The Who, David Bowie, Elton John, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, Black Sabbath, Supertramp, Lou Reed, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Joe Cocker, Frank Zappa, George Harrison and many more.

Two channels were restored as a sidecar/golden pair (see photos in listing) and available to do a test session! Sidecar available to purchaser as part of purchase price or can be excluded from sale for $5K reduction off purchase price.

The console needs to be restored (estimated at $50,000 max) and is currently located in Venice, CA. Sound Techniques USA (which is the successor to the original Sound Techniques in the UK) can restore the  to specs including NOS parts and newly manufactured parts using the original designs/schematics acquired from founder Geoff Frost (including the rare original transformers). The center section is not original but can easily be built on the schematics of the De Lane Lea desk.

This rare console was used to record/mix Queen "Queen II", Deep Purple "Machine Head" and "Made in Japan", Harry Nilsson "Son Of Schmilsson", The Who "Quadrophenia" and an incredible amount of classic soundtracks such as "Jesus Christ Superstar", James Bond "Man with the Golden Gun" by John Barry, The Omen by Jerry Goldsmith, The Spy Who Loved Me by Marvin Hamlisch and Superman II by Ken Thorne to name a few.

This desk is very similar to a Helios desk with inductor EQs and mostly passive circuit. Sound Techniques' founder Geoff Frost and Helios' founder Dick Swettenham both worked next to each other at EMI/Abbey Road tech shop so both brands are essentially cousins.

Email with any questions and I can send a short video link of the console if need be. Note that I added a few historic photos of the desk from when it was being manufactured in England, during its installation and in use at CTS (including with a tired Harry Nilsson resting its feet on it). I can provide a lot more historic photos.
