Vintage USA 1967 Dakota Red Fender Mustang Short Scale Bass

I am proud to present this amazing instrument that I am selling for a very dear friend of mine. Another beautiful and extremely Rare Vintage USA Fender Mustang Bass proudly offered by Best Price Music Gear!

This Dakota Red 1967 Mustang Bass is perhaps, the finest example I have ever seen of a 60s era vintage iconic Fender Mustang Bass. It is absolutely stunning! It was professional refinished to all its glory by a Fender Certified Luthier/Builder and Instrument Technician. It was originally finished in Dakota Red back in 1967 and the same exact paint was used when it was refinished. However, this time, it was also topped off with a nice clear coat on top of the Dakota Red finish for added luster and protection. The result is stellar! The neck is also re-finished with the same process, which contained a little bit of antique/aged tint that gives it an exquisite look and feel. The frets and fretboard were left untouched, due to the fact that there was only minimal fret wear before the bass was refinished. Please see the photo included herein, of the fret wear. All the original hardware and plastic pickguard are the original parts that came with the bass back in 1967. Even the bridge mute is intact. Although it has dried out over the years and will eventually need to be replaced. All the electronics and pickups are original and have never been modified, whatsoever. This bass plays like a dream with low medium action with just the right amount of relief in the neck. The bass is a dream! It is so beautiful! The photos just do not do it justice, although, they are very good. The bass is absolutely stunning when in your hands. I cannot express how beautiful it is. In my opinion, I don't think there is a more gorgeous Vintage 60s Mustang Bass on the planet.

There are three areas on the bass where the finish looks like it puddled ever so slightly, but you really have to look hard to find those areas. They are so small and insignificant, I doubt you would ever notice if I didn't mention it here. I mean, you almost have to look at this bass with a magnifying glass to see what I am mentioning here. These areas are where the string feed bushings are on the back of the body and at the front corners of the bridge/tailpiece where the mute mount meets the body, These areas were very difficult to capture in a photo. But if you look very closely in the photos at those areas you might be able to barely see what I am mentioning here. Believe me when I say, these areas are of no consequence, at all, and in no way take away the beauty of this incredible instrument. This Mustang Bass is the REAL DEAL!

If you want the most beautiful example of a Vintage Fender American Made Mustang Bass, this could very well be your absolute best shot, right here!

The bass is fully setup with low buttery smooth action with Flat Tape Wound Black Strings.

This Bass sounds wonderful!

This is another REAL DEAL highly sought after USA Made Fender Short Scale Bass, not a knock off or newer attempted copy of the real thing. This is the real thing. You will love this bass.

This bass is suited best with medium scale strings, due to the string through the body design. The frets show minimal to no play wear from what I can tell. If you wish to install a new foam mute, those pieces are readily available and very inexpensive...only a few bucks. It's just a gorgeous little vintage Fender USA bass. Did I mention it's a joy to play? It's hard to put down.

The action is setup at a low to medium height. For my playing style, it's perfect. However, as with any instrument, preferred action is subjective. You may like the action higher or lower. Either way, the action and intonation is very easy to adjust to your liking. The neck is nice and straight with an ever so slight bit of just right relief in it. Once again, for me and my playing style, it's set up perfectly. But if you prefer less relief, or more, it's easily obtainable with a very minor truss rod adjustment. Personally, I would leave it as is. The bass plays great! Sounds amazing, too! You can get very nice aggressive tones with the tone knob turned up to get that high end treble bite by digging in physically while playing when needed. Or, you can roll back the tone for some really smooth warm rounded out Motown type goodness, if you prefer. This bass has some serious punch on tap, as well, due to the short scale. Of course all good tone, as you know, begins with your fingers. Thankfully, this bass translates it all very well.

Feel free to ask any and all questions and don't hesitate to let me know if you'd like to see more photos of the electronics date codes, pickup under the pickups from underneath the pickguard, pickup cavity and the factory body routs, and wiring, etc. I'm happy to help. As I mentioned, I have more photos available upon request.

The bass will be securely packed and insured for the full price of the instrument for shipping. There is no case or gigbag included in this listing. Below are some details and interesting facts about these bass guitars:

Body Style: Offset solid body
Wood Composition: Alder body, Maple neck with veneer Rosewood fingerboard
Design Elements: Bolt-on neck, dot inlays, 30-inch scale length, split single-coil pickup
Finish Specifications: Natural was added as a finish for the Mustang bass in 1975.

Introduced two years after the Mustang guitar, the Mustang Bass was the first bass produced (1966 - 1981) and the last production bass designed by Leo Fender before he left the company. Targeted towards younger players, the Mustang Bass offered a shorter 30-inch scale length. Indeed, comfort was the intent behind the Mustang Bass, and its 30″ scale, light weight, offset waist, and body contours teamed up to make it easy to play, whether sitting or standing. Its headstock has a classic Fender four-on-a-side silhouette, its tuning keys have a rounded/egg-shaped profile, and its bolt-on neck is made of maple with a 19-fret rosewood fretboard. The split single-coil pickup was smaller than that of the P Bass, but still captured a wide range of bass tones. Initially, the Mustang Bass body was made of alder, but other woods were later used, particularly on natural-finished examples. A Fender/CBS product, it was in fact a Leo Fender design and has a unique place not only in Fender's lineup, but in the company's overall history.

Despite its short scale, the Mustang has a potent sound, and has been used by many notable players. Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman used one during the band's 1969 tour, as documented by the movie Gimme Shelter. The Talking Heads' Tina Weymouth used one. British purveyors included Trevor Bolder of David Bowie's Spiders from Mars, Alan Lancaster of Status Quo, and Denny Laine with Paul McCartney & Wings. Fred Smith (Blondie) Dee Dee Ramone (The Ramones) Adam Yauch (Beastie Boys) Jim O'Rourke and Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth) Philippe DAUGA (BIJOU) Corinne Mariennau (TELEPHONE) Dennis Spaag (M.O.T.O.) Colin Moulding (XTC) Evan Brack (The Fair Weathered) Brian Gordon (The Shows)

This bass is also being offered locally on Craigslist, as well as several other online e-commerce platforms and as such, we reserve the right to end this listing and sell to any local buyer at any time.
