The greatest tube powered condenser ever made is back. This upgraded one is like new and shows zero signs of wear. This Neumann U67 reissued tube mic was purchased with sweetwater last year and has only about 10-20 hours of actual use. I spent more time rolling tubes and getting the perfect sound out of it than I did using it in my studio to make music because I have a vintage C24 which I prefer in the end.

It’s basically brand new and comes with four super high end hand selected vintage NOS (new old stock) mil-spec tubes to roll and try out (As shown). This puts the U67 head and shoulders above any other new U67 because you can get three very different sounds from this one mic, depending on the projects needs. Tubes are packed securely underneath the mic in the case. APRIL 2024 UPDATE: I just spent $200 on a premium hand selected Mullard ef86 Mullard NOS mic grade tube from Christian “Bowie” Whitmore, online tube guru. Mic will be shipped with this tube installed and should probably be left in permanently.

The mic now has a HUGE output on the NOS British made mullard Ef86 tubes with added microphone bands and a tiny bit quieter noise floor. The cardiod pattern is more true cardiod now across the full frequency range and picks up less of the room now too, which was my biggest problem with the stock UA tube. Comes with everything a brand new one comes with, even the manual and paperwork which are still sealed in plastic and the yellow cable protector still on the mic cable.

The other modification I made to this mic is non destructive and can easily be removed. However, it is my own little trick to get the reissues to sound much closer to a vintage: The original vintage u67’s were shipped with a ring of yellow foam around the base of the capsule mount, inside the head basket. This genius little trick absorbed unwanted reflections from the hard, flat mylar of the capsule above. However, the foam would deteriorate over time so techs came up with “the paper test” in which they dragged white paper over the foam to check for shedding. After decades of decay, almost all vintage u67’s have had this removed but it did contribute to the original clean presence of this iconic mic. The reissues do not have this so I disassembled the headbasket and installed a custom made 1:1 the replacement foam ring which I fabricated (new of course). It is the same foam ring I use for the vintages I repairs I do. You will notice a big difference with this small addition In both the response and the presence of the output. It seems to help with cancelling unwanted room noise and helps improve cardiod response as well as proximity effect. Tom OnoFrio also replaced 8 small “amps” as he calls them (components) on May 3rd 2024 to make this mic truly sing (receipt included).

NEW TUBE DETAILS:

“Rolling tubes” means to try a ton of different tubes on any tube powered unit until you find the perfect one. This is a true art form and has been a passion of mine for almost 30 years. I’ve worked closely with tube guru Christian “Bowie” Whitmore and many techs on many projects to fine tune this skill. I tried many different tubes and spent about 100+ hours critically listening to each one for this particular mic. I tested them all on my calibrated tube tester and burned each one in, completing extensive listening tests for each one until I landed on the perfect NOS vintage Mullard EF86 that comes pre-installed in this mic. The listing actually includes TWO British made Mullard tubes you can roll and see which you like best. I even added unique microphonic bands to the tube to improve its clarity and mitigate microphonics (not show). It also noticeably improves harmonic distortion and cleans up the output a bit. As a side note, this experiment proved that once again, Mullard mesh square-getter electron tubes are the reigning champs of the U67‘s. I will note that the included RCA JAN sounds extremely close to the Mullard. The mic opened up and produced a beautiful proximity effect like no other tube did. You won’t find a better sounding U67 out there, I promise you that. It sounds much more like my vintage U67 now and we have a few to compare it to. The stock UA tubes installed on these are kind of lifeless and sterile, and yield a quieter output too. This upgrade made all the difference, opening up the potential of this mic significantly. Not all Mullards are made equal either as the market is flooded with crappy leaking new ones (which have zero to do with the British vintage made tube legacy or brand in any way shape or form). We tested over a dozen or so until we found the best one for this particular mic and this Mullard tube alone is worth over $200. The RCA sounds surprisingly similar and the JAN spec will ensure decades of reliable service. The RCA has a slightly flatter, darker response to my ears but also tests NOS. 4 tubes included in total.

The resort of the mic is stock and in like new condition. All sales final, please ask questions prior to purchasing.
