Vintage "Waverly Cloud" Mandolin Tailpiece & Cover

Here we have what is most commonly known as the famous "Waverly Cloud" tailpiece & cover for mandolins/banjos from the first half of the 20th century.

This tailpiece was an industry standard used by nearly every mandolin or banjo builder at one point or another like Gibson, Martin, Larson, Regal, Washburn/Lyon & Healy and many more. In actuality there are a number of different possible companies who produced these including, to my knowledge, Louis Handel Co. and Kluson Manufacturing. (further history info below)

"The only other mandolin tailpiece they used was on the Style D - Alrite mandolin. The shape of it's cover prompted the nickname "cloud tailpiece," and the assumption has been that they were made by Waverly, but newly discovered information confirms that they were actually made by the Louis Handel Co.
Martin Guitars was using identical tailpiece on their lower-priced mandolins and documents from their archives confirm that Handel was the manufacturer."
"Researcher Greig Hutton uncovered inventory records in Martin Guitar's archives that verified that Handel made the "cloud" tailpieces Martin used on their mandolins which are identical to the Alrite."
