VINTAGE '80s SNAKESKIN KRAMER BARETTA!!!
*Custom-made for Derek St. Holmes for '80s Ted Nugent Tour!
Hello and thanks for checking out this auction. You are bidding on an extremely rare, '80s snakeskin Kramer Baretta electric guitar. I acquired this guitar from a guy in Georgia with a very interesting story about it. Apparently, this guitar once belonged to the legendary Derek St. Holmes of Ted Nugent Band and Whitford/St. Holmes fame. As the story goes, Derek had this guitar made in white (the color that remains on the headstock) in the early '80s. But after it arrived, Ted saw it and said it didn't look "wild" enough and insisted he send it back to have it redone in some sort of animal print, haha.
So what you have here is basically an already highly sought-after '80s American Kramer Baretta, BUT with a one-of-a-kind snakeskin job, potentially per the request of Mr. Ted Nugent. I've seen many guitars with a snakeskin finish...Jackson, BC Rich, Charvel (I even own the Warren De Martini model)...and the finish on this one smokes all of those. It really looks real.
There's no major cracks or dents, just some typical surface scratches and finish checking...mainly on the backplates and the headstock (see pics: The point of the headstock is chipped a little). The fretboard is in great condition, although there is a tiny, tiny bit of rust on a couple of the frets (see pics). Really the biggest issue is just the aging of the Floyd Rose and trem bar and the input jack can be a little noisy at times. The trem bar is pretty beat up, but the unit functions fine. A new Floyd is a pretty easy fix anyway. I'm not sure what the pickup is, but it sounds killer. The sections of the 3-piece neck can kind of be felt on the back when playing, due to its age. The guitar will come with the old hardshell case that it came in when I purchased it. Don't miss out on this true collector's item and absolute shredder. Good luck and happy bidding!
*I have been talking with Kramer Guitars and they believe it to be a Baretta II model dating between 1986 and 1989, with the “B” plate due to it being a custom one-off. They are trying to confirm the St. Holmes ownership and story and I will update this listing accordingly. Either way, my asking price is what it would be even if the story doesn't check out. I'm inclined to think it's true though because Derek St. Holmes is a pretty random guitarist to come up with if someone is going to make up a story!
