The Big River "Izabella"

Up for sale is a brand new Big River "Izabella" S-Style guitar. The body is made from Catalpa, which is similar to Ash but is a bit lighter in weight with a crazier grain structure. To start the body was prepped, sanded, pore filled and sealed. It was then given 14 coats of our custom mixed Lake Placid Blue Nitro and left to do it’s thing. Once the body was ready it was wet sanded and buffed. Like most of our guitars, the aging and relic’ing, including some really cool checking throughout, was inspired by a couple of vintage strats we found. To the touch, this S-Style guitar feels like a well worn instrument.

The neck is a licensed roasted maple with a rosewood fingerboard. A 9.5" radius, 22 med jumbo frets with rounded and hidden ends, a medium C shape that is a little more substantial than a Fender modern C, a bone nut, and is finished with several thin coats of lacquer and buffed to a super smooth satin finish. These frets are absolutely fantastic, also of my necks receive a fret level, crown and polish prior to being bolted on. I went with a set of Hipshot locking tuners for added stability that we aged to match this build.

I went with a Hipshot 2pt. Trem with a big block and steel saddles. This bridge/trem gives this Strat incredible tuning stability, resonance and sustain. All of the hardware, including this trem, pickguard, covers and knobs on this Izabella were aged by us as well.

Under the aged mint pickguard i went with a standard 5way switch with a blender pot on the 2nd tone knob. I used a an Oak 5way switch, 250k CTS pots, a CTS blender pot, a .047 Mullard NOS Tropical Fish cap , a John Suhr Treble Bleed, a PureTone 4 prong input jack for added stability and Gavitt Cloth pushback wire throughout. The blender pot allows you add as much or little of the neck and bridge into each position. With the blender full on the positions are as follows….

1.) Bridge + Neck

2.) Bridge + Middle + Neck (Tele Tone)

3.) Middle

4.) Neck + Middle + Bridge

5.) Neck + Bridge

For the pickups i went with a set of Radioshop RSV63’s. The guys at Radioshop wind some of the best sounding pickups out there. There’s a reason Chris Buck has his signature set with them. Anyway here is what they had to say……

This aged Lake Placid Blue Strat looks and feels like an instrument that has been gigged for years. With low action, incredible stability, resonance and sustain, this Izabella Strat plays and sounds like a guitar that punches way above its weight class. The Radioshop Vintage ‘63s are the perfect match for this vintage inspired Strat. If you are looking for vibe and mojo, better put on your rain jacket because this one dripping in it! Here at Big River we've started doing our
own Nitro finishing on guitars. We mix our
own colors to try and closely match the
classic colors of the ttgolden age of Strats
and Tele's . We are also mixing some
more modern Fender colors as well.
Some guitars will be relic'd, some will just
have that incredible old school feel.

My instruments receive a full setup, with a
deep body/neck cleaning and polish. All
gloss maple boards are polished, while all
rosewood/darker boards receive an F1 &
lemon oil treatment. make sure all
electronics are in working order and if
something under the hood needs to be
changed, I make that determination
based upon what type/year guitar im
working on. But either way I am upfront in
my listing. Guitars are set up with
D'Addario XL 9-42's. Action is checked.
and adjusted to Low-Med if necessary.
and tuning and intonation is set on all
instruments before I pack them to ship.

It always made me feel good when i
pulled a guitar out of a box and basically
only had to tune it up to pitch and away
you go, so I try to afford you the buyer, of
that same courtesy. Understand though
set ups are a truly personal thing. I
cannot guarantee everything but I try to
use the bell curve when it comes to
setting up instruments, so even if there is
something you wanted changed it is not a
big ordeal. Feel free to ask if there is
something specific you would like.
