This is a Japanese-built 1987 Fender Japan Contemporary Series Stratocaster ST-557, as indicated by the serial number and stamps in the neck cavity and on the back of the neck (see photos).
~~~ Last call! I am taking this guitar off the market on 6/12 and it's going on the bench 6/13. If I realist it, it won't be $475 any more, that's a promise!
*** Japanese-built guitars now are being recognized for their exceptional build quality, value and potential appeal to collectors. ***
It features the Kahler 2520 locking tremolo, which has the same 2-3/16 inch post spacing as the Fender 2-post American Standard Bridge, so if you’re thinking what I’m thinking…..
Condition: This 28-year old guitar is in very good playing condition with remarkably unworn frets. The figure in the headstock is outstanding, check the photos! Cosmetically, it is an authentic "light relic," with just the right amount of wear and yellowing wood that some other people pay real dollars to recreate.
This, however, is the real thing.
This guitar plays and sounds exactly as you’d expect from one of these very collectible Fender Japan gems. It features: ~ Maple neck with skunk stripe ~ Micro-tilt neck adjustment ~ Kahler 2520 tremolo; features individual string-height adjustments ~ Kahler locking nut (removed) ~ The black gasket under the neck plate ~ 11 screw pickguard ~ These original pickups appear to be Alnico and are very "Fender USA" sounding. ~ The wiring is untouched! ~ D-profile neck is clean and straight with unworn frets ~ Truss rod: relief is set @ .013 ~ 22 medium jumbo frets. ~ 25.5" scale length ~ Body, neck and pickguard have been cleaned and polished ~ All hardware and electronics inspected, cleaned and lubed ~ Chrome hardware
