Up for sale, a 1980 Kramer KXG-20 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. An early USA-made Kramer produced shortly after Gary Kramer’s departure from Travis Bean, this KXG-20 is engineered for heavy gain, with a solitary DiMarzio humbucker and aluminum neck construction.

This guitar has the distinct articulation, note attack, and ringing sustain that comes with an aluminum neck design, and the tonewood complement is rounded out with an ebonol fretboard and a solid maple body. The humbucker, custom wound for Kramer by DiMarzio, is similar to a Dual Sound, metering at 12.8k ohms and delivering big, bold tones with great harmonic complexity. The broad, warm midrange response ensures the sound has a fullness that balances well with the bright maple/aluminum construction, and the guitar takes gain notably well. This Kramer weighs 9lbs, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The neck features Kramer’s patented Power-Forged T design, with a T-shaped piece of aluminum and two maple grafts filling out the profile to ensure optimal comfort in the palm. The neck has a medium C-shaped profile with prominent shoulders and ideal heft, measuring .860” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The fretboard is crafted from ebonol, a synthetic ebony analog that delivers all of the glassy, immediate articulation inherent to that particular tonewood while minimizing the risk of any chipping or cracking with age. The medium jumbo fretwire is nigh flawless, benefitting from a level and crown, and this guitar plays cleanly up the 25” scale. The fretboard width at the zero fret is 1 9/16”, just forward of Kramer’s Tension Roller nut, which features a unique design, precision tooled to ensure optimal pitch stability and no friction when bending. The headstock sports the iconic “V” shape for weight relief, and the original set of tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.

The DiMarzio is governed by Master Volume and Tone controls, and the wiring harness features untouched solder joints and CTS pots which date to the 28th week of '80. Plastics comprise the original pair of black speed knobs. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish is limited to a few faint marks along the lower bout perimeter, some minor scuffing on top along the strum path, and a handful of faint scratches on the back that fall shy of “buckle rash.” The smooth gloss on the neck profile (over the grafts) is immaculate.

The original Kramer-branded brown tolex hardshell case is included.
