The A-Designs Audio 500 Series "EM" modules are transformer I/O microphone preamp / direct interfaces. All units in this series share the same basic feature-set, with differences in input and output transformers for different tonal characteristics. The front panel features input gain, +48V phantom power, a -20dB pad, polarity reversal, and a 1/4" instrument input.

The EM-Gold takes the steel output transformer from the EM-Silver and the nickel/steel input transformer from the EM-Red to create a sound that is "darker," more rolled-off in high frequencies.

About This Listing

EM-Gold

A-Designs took the custom wound output transformer of the EM-Silver and combined it with the custom wound input transformer of the EM-Red.

The results here made for the perfect sound on a floor tom!

It also produced great results with a number of microphones for vocals Bass, and MP3/Drum Machines.

We can say that the EM-Gold produces the dark end of the EM-Silver with more "up font" mids.
