Upon first sight, you'd think that this '83 Razer was the kind of guitar 'ol C. C. DeVille would have slung around his waist with his hair higher than he was, but nope, you'd be wrong. This guitar is much more than a pretty face and if you dig down deep, you'll find one like it in the hands of one James "T-Model" Ford laying out some swampy licks on that highly-requested wedding special, "Slopbucket Blues." Look it up- you'll probably be as surprised as I was.
Come to find out, the dual tone knobs activate the single coil/dual coil splitting circuitry of the humbuckers and this thing will get as raw as you want it to. We can thank Brandon Stolte for the design and development of the guitar and it's yet another example of the forward-thinking by the masterminds in Meridian back in the '80s. Odd, but yet still very unique.
Now, let's ask ourselves the following question; What happens to a guitar when it sits in its case as part of a collection, unplayed for decades? Well, pretty much the following: It doesn't get beat up, but the strings need to be replaced and it needs to be played. Ladies and Gentlemen, we did a nice TLC session on it and you now have in front of you the cleanest Razor available anywhere. The proof is in the pictures pudding.
There are no signs of playwear on the guitar and the pickups are crisp, strong, and articulate. The guitar has been exceptionally cared for and it's in absolute collector-quality condition. There is a faint case bleed spot on the back of the neck from it sitting in the case for so long, but we suspect a bit of honest playing time will make this fade away. The original case is in very good condition and has been cleaned and detailed.
If you asked me which guitar I was most excited to find at this past Arlington show, it would either be this one or the red Mantis that will soon be making its appearance. There ain't no shame in loving '80s guitars, especially if you were amongst it all when they came out!
As always, thanks for stopping by and give us a shout or email with any questions!
