Here is a gorgeous Lowell Kiesel Lap Steel, from the late 1946, in Like New condition.  Kiesel is the company that became Carvin, and this is a very early example of Carvin guitar making.

It has a Bakelite body and Lucite fingerboard, both in lovely condition, so much so that it is apparent this lap steel has spent most of its life in its case.  As it happens, there’s a good reason for that.  When I picked up this Lap Steel, the pickup made no sound.  I opened it up to find that the lead wire for the pickup had never been soldered to the potentiometer.  It was just twisted in place and had come loose.  A little solder and she was back in business.

The pickup has a bright sound, and will really cut through a mix. It comes with its original hard case, which is heavily worn on the exterior, but in good shape on the interior.

Here is a quote from the Carvin Museum Webmaster about a different example of this same model:

"This is a rare piece of Carvin history. It's a 1946 Kiesel lap steel guitar. Kiesel was the precursor to Carvin, founded by Lowell Kiesel in 1946, which makes this one of the earliest Carvin instruments ever made. Production on this model was pretty limited, and there are probably less than a dozen examples still around. This one is in excellent condition, and it is all original. Like other early Kiesel instruments, it's made from Bakelite (a synthetic plastic patented in 1907), with a lucite fingerboard. The scale length is 22.5.”
