Vintage 1980's Hondo Alien Headless Aluminum Neck Bass Guitar w/ Original Hardshell Case!

Up for sale is this vintage 1980's Hondo Alien headless, aluminum neck bass guitar. Some of these were branded as import Kramer Duke basses, but this one is unbranded other than the original "XB-5MR" model sticker on the neck plate.

This bass is in good condition for its age, but does show wear including some scuffs, scratches, and small dings. The worst of this are some scuffs on the back in the "belt buckle" region. The original, almost Candy Apple Red finish still looks great and presents well. For some reason, the original bridge is badly pitted in places and this can be seen in the photos. Other than that, the bass is pretty clean. It is all original as well, including the original knobs.

As with most vintage aluminum neck instruments, there is no adjustable truss rod and the neck does show some slight relief. That being said, the action is low and the bass plays great all the way up the neck. The original finish on the neck has split along the aluminum pieces, which is normal on these instruments after many years. It's a straight line and is purely cosmetic from the materials expanding and contracting over the years.

Our tech has just went over this one, which included polishing the frets, cleaning/oiling the fretboard, and spraying out the electronics. Everything works as it should and this one will be ready for the gig straight out of the box. These have an interesting tone, with a quick, non-sustained thump on the bass side, and some sustain on the treble side.

The original hardshell case is included and is in nice condition as well, showing only some light wear. All of the latches and hinges work as they should and even the original case keys are included.
