For your consideration, a fantastic Gold Star GF-100JD! This J.D. Crowe Signature model was produced as a replica of the banjo used by J.D. on The Bluegrass Album, 43 years ago. This banjo was made and signed by J.D. prior to his passing in 2021.

*** Edited to add: Yes, we know that this banjo is still produced and can be bought brand new for $2,000.  You have to understand that due to his death, J.D. is no longer signing the banjo labels. The banjo that we are selling has the man's authentic signature on the inside label. We completely understand that you may not care if it is signed or not. ***

This banjo is 100% original and unmodified. It has low miles, and shows no signs of abuse. Everything functions as it should, and our repair shop just performed a full setup and restring. It plays excellent and sounds tremendous. The inside was also signed by another monster of a player, Bill Evan, in 2021. A very nice Superior hardshell case is included. The case has one missing latch and a few scuffs, but it still a functional premium case.

This banjo is available for a test drive in our Jamestown, Kentucky showroom.

Info from the manufacturer:

In 1980, five musicians went into the Arch Street Studio in Berkeley, CA and Bluegrass recording history was made. The Bluegrass Album – with Tony Rice, J.D. Crowe, Bobby Hicks, Doyle Lawson and Todd Phillips redefined the direction of the music for the next generation. The banjo pictured on the cover and recorded on the Bluegrass Album was a prewar RB-3 that has been with Saga for more than 30 years. For the past five years, we have charted a course which has finally resulted in the recreation of that legendary banjo…an instrument that produced some of the finest examples of banjo tone that have ever been recorded. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of the continuing tradition.
