This is one of late Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson’s drum thrones from back in the early 1980’s. The last tour on which Dennis used this was the 1983 Beach Boys US & Canada Tour. Sadly and tragically he died in December of that year.
I worked on The Beach Boys touring crew from January of 1983 through September 1993. I was a member of the band crew that set up the band gear for every Beach Boys performance during that time. In 1986 I was promoted to Production Manager, overseeing all the details of preproduction and production of every concert in which the Beach Boys performed both domestically and globally.
We had two (2) systems of band gear with which we toured the globe. We identified them as the “A System” and the “B System”. This allowed us to setup 2 concerts, each in a different city, where The Beach Boys could play on the same day - a daytime show and then a nighttime show. It also gave us the ability to do shows on back-to-back days in venues that were too far apart for a single truck to make the drive due to mileage restrictions. We carried a lot of spare gear, including 3 or 4 of these drum thrones in each system.
This drum throne is from the “B System.” Dennis played hundreds of shows sitting on this very stool. It’s had a lot of use, as you can see from the photos. The chrome has oxidized and the caramel colored velvet fabric seat cover shows its age as this throne has rocked the house and literally traveled the globe.
You probably are not buying this for its utilitarian value but rather its provenance as having been used by on of the most iconic drummers from America’s most iconic band of the past several decades.
These were the drum stools that Dennis preferred to use. He didn’t really like any of the manufactured stools from the major drum companies.
This stool raises and lowers manually. The lowest height is 24” and highest is 32”. Height is set by loosening the knob under the seat, raising or lowering the seat, and then tightening the knob. The seat swivels independently of the adjusting post.
This stool will come slightly disassembled to facilitate packaging.
Included will be a letter of authenticity signed by me.
