Gibson Moderne Prototype 1982 - Black
For your consideration, a real rarity in the Gibson family. You are looking at a 1982 prototype of the elusive Moderne. In 50 years of playing, this is only the second I have ever seen in black, and some indications are that were only two prototypes in this color.
There are fine scratches on the front and pickguard. There is a scratch on the back on the neck, but it is cosmetic only and does not affect the playability. It is dead stock. Heck, the plastic is still on the control cavity cover. And of course, we have the original case. The case has some dings on it from multiple moves over 4 decades, but that's the job of a case.
And yes, it plays quite well, thank you. The bridge pickup measures 8.1k, and the neck 11.3k. Frets have extremely little wear on them and measure at around .035" x 0.108". And for the strange string angles at the headstock it stays in tune remarkably well.
The guitar was acquired in Dallas, Tx area in the mid 80's by my brother and has been in our family ever since. It has been played out maybe twice in the late 80's, but has spent the majority of it's life in it's case. We had every intention of keeping it, but are now forced to sell it to pay medical bills.
We would love to see this go to a collection of oddities and rarities.
Thanks stopping to take a look.
