Special Ordered first Ludwig Rocker Series in Silver Sparkle, in the late 1980's as a 2 virgin 22" kicks, a 10", a 13" and a 16". I picked these up at Selmer in Elkhart In. They were made in the new Monroe North Carolina Ludwig Plant after the Ludwig Chicago Plant closed. Everything on line says these are 4 ply American hardwood veneers, with an inner ply of maple. I just counted the plies. This drum is 6 ply. There are some scuffs on the finish and badge. The lug screws were taken out and painted with burgandy color rustoleum at one point by me, to preserve them. Looks like the mount inner screws might be due for that same process.
Great Drum. Sounds Great. RARE! It's a regular 6 ply ludwig shell from that era. I suspect that they didn't have the 4 ply in stock in a 10" for my special order, and just used their standard 6 ply shell . Thank You!
Keep in Eye out for my last 22" virgin Kick from this kit!
