The Big River “Izabella”

7.0lbs.

Up for sale is a brand new Big River “Izabella” S - Style HSS Guitar. The body is Catalpa, which is similar to ash only lighter with a funkier grain pattern. It was prepped and given six coats of our custom mixed “Transparent Oxblood” Nitro and then eight coats of clear and left to hang and do it’s thing. When it was ready I wet sanded and buffed it out then began the aging process to it. There is beautiful checking throughout the entire body, which is a little difficult to show in this color through photos, giving it that vintage look and textured feel of a guitar that’s been played for ages. I installed a Fender Vintage Narrow Trem with a big block for increased resonance and sustain. The hardware was aged in house.

The neck is a licensed roasted maple with a rosewood fingerboard. It has a 9.5” radius, 22 medium jumbo frets that has rounded and hidden ends, a medium C shape, and a bone nut. I give our necks several coats of lacquer and then buff them to a super smooth satin finish and lightly aging them with checking throughout. I went with a set of Hipshot locking tuners which are a more modern component, so I aged them in house so they would match the vibe of this vintage inspired guitar.

Under the aged tortoise pickguard, I put together a new wiring harness using premium components. An Oak 5way switch, 250k CTS pots with a 500k push/pull pot on the second tone knob to split the humbucker with adjustable tone, , a .047 Cinnamon Drop cap, a Puretone 4 prong input jack for added stability, and Gavitt Cloth pushback wire throughout.

For pickups I went with Fralin Blues Specials in the neck and middle, with a Fralin Pure PAF in the bridge position. The Blues Specials have a thicker tone while still retaining the classic strat sound. These are one of Fralin’s best sellers, perfect for an HSS strat with higher output and a thicker sound making them a versatile powerhouse. For the bridge I went with a Fralin Pure PAF. Experience what a humbucker should really sound like and get inspired by the Pure P.A.F’s beautiful tone. Lindy’s favorite humbucker, the Pure P.A.F. is a 50’s P.A.F. clone, using real Butyrate Bobbins and all USA-Made parts. Featuring a clean, clear tone with incredible versatility and dynamics. The Blues Specials pair perfectly with the Pure PAF, and the push/pull on the second tone knobs allows you to split the Pure PAF into a single coil. While a lot of times splitting a humbucker can give you a thin uninspired tone, this humbucker splits beautifully and matches the tones with the Blues Specials.

Anyway this strat is absolute killer! It’s light weight (7.0lbs), looks and feels beautiful with the rich transparent Oxblood finish that was aged to feel like a well worn instrument. These pickups are a bit more aggressive than your mom‘s strat , and they have a little extra power while still retaining the strat sound. This ”Izabella“ was put together to be a versatile tone machine that is perfect for the studio, gigging four nights a week or just messing around at home.

Here at Big River we've started doing our
own Nitro finishing on guitars. We mix our
own colors to try and closely match the
classic colors of the golden age of Strats
and Tele's . We are also mixing some
more modern Fender colors as well.
Some guitars will be relic'd, some will just
have that incredible old school feel.
Check back often to see what other
Strats and Tele's we turn into great
looking great sounding quitars.

My instruments receive a full setup, with a
deep body/neck cleaning and polish. All
gloss maple boards are polished, while all
rosewood/darker boards receive an F1 &
lemon oil treatment. make sure all
electronics are in working order and if
something under the hood needs to be
changed, I make that determination
based upon what type/year guitar im
working on. But either way I am upfront in
my listing. Guitars are set up with
D'Addario XL 9-42's. Action is checked.
and adjusted to Low-Med if necessary.
and tuning and intonation is set on all
instruments before I pack them to ship.

It always made me feel good when i
pulled a guitar out of a box and basically
only had to tune it up to pitch and away
you go, so I try to afford you the buyer, of
that same courtesy. Understand though
set ups are a truly personal thing. I
cannot guarantee everything but I try to
use the bell curve when it comes to
setting up instruments, so even if there is
something you wanted changed it is not a
big ordeal. Feel free to ask if there is
something specific you would like.
Anywho thank you for checking us out, if
you have any questions feel free to ask, if
there are any upgrades you wish to have
done on any guitar, let me know and I
promise I will be incredibly fair when
offering quotes for upgrades. Even if you
know you want to upgrade for example
the stock pickups on a MIM Fender Tele
but don't know to what, shoot me a
message, I have knowledge on a wide
range tonal options.
