DW Rick Allen's Def Leppard 1996 SLANG Tour, 5-Piece Collectors Series, Maple Kit - Red Stain Finish

Rick Allen used this DW drum set circa 1996-1997on Def Leppard's SLANG tour. It can be seen in multiple live videos from this era including their performance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno below. Rick Allen played the bass drum from this set in their 1999 VHS Def Leppard Story Tellers performance. The set was also returned to service about 2004 as part of the bands "C-Rig" set that was used for one-off performances including festivals, TV appearances and private functions. The set remains in excellent condition, however some obvious signs of use can be seen in the photos.

Def Leppard's SLANG album and tour marked a major departure for the band. Inspired largely by the 1990's Grunge music movement, they abandoned their traditional "ultra-perfectionist" approach, for more raw and immediate sound. This also marked Rick Allen's return to playing acoustic drums for the first time since switching to electric drums following his 1984 car crash.

The set includes the following drums.

  • 14"X5" DW Maple Rack Tom - #119170
  • 12"X6" DW Maple Rack Tom - #119169
  • 10"x5" DW Maple Rack Tom - #119168
  • 22"x18" DW Maple Kick Drum - #119171
  • 26"x14" DW Maple Kick Drum - #181651

The 22" bass drum is date stamped 1996. The additional 26" bass is date stamped 2001 and apparently added later. In performance photos from the SLANG tour, Allen's set included a bass drum "Woofer". The Woofer had been replaced with a 26" bass drum when we received the set from Def Leppard.

Check out the hand drawn diagram of this set one found on Def Leppard's website.

Acquired directly from Def Leppard. Includes a COA signed by Rick Allen.
